FORM FOAM isn’t only a record with music on it, it’s also a movie on your turntable. It’s simple: To see the video content, direct a bright lamp at the record as it plays and then film the surface of the record as it spins. The camera will need to shoot progressively at a very high shutter speed with a frame rate of 25fps. Alternatively, view the disc under a strobe flashing 25 times per second.

This makes listening to FORM FOAM on headphones something like watching a 3D movie without the glasses on. But even without Sutherland’s visual input, the record has an immersive feel. Their performances are an amalgam of electronic music, kinetic art, comic strips, abstract animation, audiovisual cut-ups – a mix of analog and digital practices – tape manipulation, samples, found sounds, aleatoric and algorithmic programming and live improvisation. Dan plays media devices and electronic instruments. Reuben plays video zoetrope turntable.

The modular synthesizer offers an inexhaustible variety of possible interconnections. Amongst gate and trigger, inbetween 0 and 5 volt, Kai Niggemann and Nils Quak did experiment with their instruments in may 2016 at Makroscope. This recording is a documentation of their individual approach to the modular sound. Kai played his Buchla 200e Electric Music Box, while Nils utilized a Eurorack Modular System, a Ciat Lonbarde Plumbutter as well as Native Instruments Reaktor. Kai Niggemann performed first, followed by Nils Quaks concert.

The artwork of the tape incorporates copy art by Gabriele Klages that arose from the Makroscope. The Makroscope in Mülheim an der Ruhr is a multidisciplinary hub for art and technology, as well as Ana Ott’s yearslong main venue for leftfield music.

Transport rushes through all sorts of unholy rituals and improvised excesses – from Tanz um den Melkeimer to the Ekelzentrum and on to the Traumbaum. A Space Odyssey without rules or certainties, apart from the filthy power of an uproar of etheric synthesizer washes and motoric drum pulses. On their Milchreise, they boldly stimulate cosmic regions of your brain that no band has stimulated before (probably apart from Amon Düül, Ash Ra Tempel and Boredoms).

Transport are Nils Herzogenrath (also known as Vomit Heat) and Niklas Wandt (drummer of countless improv adventures) – both are also members of the more or less well-known pop group Oracles – as well as Edis Ludwig, who also publishes music under the moniker Tesk. Transport is their thundering, whispering, grunting, squealing and buzzing gathering.

Br'laaB is the moniker for the studio works of Brecht Ameel (Razen), consisting on the one hand of themes from Ameel’s songbook for the Acid Boogie Quartet, on the other hand of tape collage pieces based on recordings of found audio, ultra-fi sampling, degraded vhs, skipping cd’s and sandpaper vinyls.

Combining influences that range from Slint to Raymond Dijkstra and from Tape to Peer Raben, the pieces here were assembled and recorded after hours while working on commissions for contemporary dance and theatre.

Plainclothes men hover on every corner of the Moloch 50 racing field. Hellhound armor underneath all the black gloves and white raincoats. Surveillance slit eyes and wiretap scars all identical, only their code names set them apart: brimstone to wishbone, fox trot to dog rot.

Distant chirps like digital crickets remembering a summer that never happened. Somewhat melancholic yet too distant to allow direct signifiers.
