At the end of 2017 I was invited by Artists Cydney Barrows and Becky Jordan to respond to their 'Thread' installation at Cuckoo Farm, where they created beautiful and vibrant 3D sculptures with cotton thread and pins within the space. 

Across three visits I recorded various sounds, including contact pics on the threads, the sound of the spools in bowls and bowing the pins they're wrapped around (alongside vocal snippets and other ambient noises). 

The composition is roughly broken into three movements; installation, exhibition and deconstruction. With each has its own mood; the delicate and contemplative installation, the euphoria of exhibiting and the catharsis of pulling it all down.

The only sound that isn't from my recordings is the bass sound that comes in in the middle - everything else you hear is recorded from the installation.

Chemical Motorway

I wrote this song in Kaiser Hospital, waiting 11 hours when Simone had surgery. It all went well and Brian the Brain-tumor is now gone. One week has passed, life is very slowly going back to normal and she will have the coolest skin braid ever. Photo by Alba Giertz, as always :).

When the sun goes down, you begin to hear an exhilarating and noisy sound around the temples of Angkor. This sound comes from the depths of the jungle and seems a warning. A warning to those of us visiting the place, saying: Tourists, go home. A Rave is taking place tonight and you are not invited.
This entire piece has been created by editing and processing that sound.

Cuando el sol cae, alrededor de los templos de Angkor empieza a escucharse un sonido estremecedor y ruidoso. El sonido procede del interior de la jungla y parece ser una advertencia, un aviso para todos los que estamos visitando el lugar que nos dice: Turistas, volved a casa. Hay una rave esta noche aquí y no estáis invitados.

To celebrate world listening day, on Wednesday 15th July, we explored Fingringhoe Wick Nature Reserve during the 2018 heatwave with our ears. We heard turtle doves, wind through the rushes and lots of crickets!

This workshop was part of our 'The Year project'. Funded by Heritage Lottery Fund Young Roots, we're documenting the changes in season at the reserve over 12 months.
