Gladiators

Going camping this weekend? Wish you had an extended DJ mix of campfire suitable music that everyone from the grandparents to the kids can enjoy? Look no further. Parental Guidance is Civillian's first foyer into the world of mixing live bands who are playing real instruments, a terrifying thought for many DJ's. With the common thread of real, live music - you can still expect Civillian's signature variety with selections ranging from Aretha Franklin covering the everyone's favourite The Band song "The Weight", to Waylon Jenning's penultimate driving tune "Ramblin' Fever".

Heavily inspired by pioneering efforts in that realm like Smalltown DJ's "Camping Mix", and DJ Ali B "Plays the Blues", this recording was going to be no usual undertaking for Civillian. After 2+ years of focused digging, nearly a year of practicing technique, and a 2 week artist residency in a van down by the river for the final recording stage, it is ready for the open air and the open road.

EDIT: This mix was in the very early days of me learning how to mix and I know the mixing isnt of the best quality but I keep it up bc its the first mix of mine that gained some traction and love!

Wanderlust:

1. A very strong or irresistible urge to travel.

2. Intense desire to explore.

After putting out Wanderlust a few months ago I knew at some point I was going to put out Volume 2. After opening for Kygo at Republik Nightclub in Calgary, I used a lot of the same chill songs for this mix. 

I do these mixes because I fuckin love music and want to share the amazing stuff I find with everyone. Sitting on a beach, driving or even working out, Wanderlust Volume 2 will delight your ears. This is music that I love and inspires me to be more creative and just makes me generally happy as hell!

This series is made not for the raging dance floor but for chilling with friends, starting off an epic day, or just on a really dope sound system or headphones. These mixes are comprised of current tracks I have gathered and also some classic tracks from the last couple decades. All of the tracks I believe in completely. I like the challenge of mixing different genres and styles into a complete 80 minute aural pleasure field. I love playing live and throwing down funky dance music but I also love these deep grooves. I put a lot of thought, time, and emotion into gathering these tracks, figuring out how to put them together, and mixing them into the final mix. It is a creative and sometimes difficult process but it is so rewarding to complete it and post for others to enjoy. This mix is truly a window into me and into a sampling of the tracks I love. One <3 to all of the artists, composers, producers, remixers, dreamers, and visionaries who created these tracks.
