Beyond The Struttosphere blast back into orbit with the release of ‘Planet Ogo’ on Discolypso. The title track is inspired by progressive trance and fuses a driving chug bassline with a hypnotic 303 sequence, distorted techno stabs and a trifecta of meandering arpeggiators, creating a wormhole through space and time. Thunderous power chords and nuanced percussion layering guide the track towards a cosmic void, echoing with mind-bending vocal samples from the cult sci-fi film ’12 Monkeys’, before a high-voltage crescendo transports you to the Planet Ogo. Remixes are provided by two masters of the scene: South Korean cosmic disco royalty, Shubostar, applies her trademark sound, introducing playful melodies, kinetic arps and retro-futuristic synths that elevate its seismic breakdown into outer space. Spanish new wave maestro, K-Effect, provides a more psychedelic contribution, weaving in tripped-out FX, clinical drum arrangements and low-end synths that propel the tune towards its ominous conclusion.
‘Cosmic Stuntman’, the second offering, is as intrepid as its name suggests. The first half is a minimalist soundscape defined by crunchy guitar riffs, energetic tambourines, cowbells and an array of spacey FX, before the second opens in throttle with a ferocious mid-range bass, cutting snares and cosmic pads that build in magnitude as the track reaches its spellbinding climax. Dionigi, alumnus of Italian cosmic sound movement, remixes the track into a low-slung chugger complete with glitchy vocoders that resemble scrambled UFO transmissions.
The EP concludes with bonus remixes of BTS back catalogue hits. ‘Replicants’, originally released on Mélopée Records in 2021, is resurrected by Berlin-based electronic rock n’ roll band, Tegel Boys, who transform the track into a krautrock-infused kosmiche space odyssey perfect for tuned-in psychic travellers. Mexican dark wave legend, Rigopolar, follows with a tranced-out remix bolstered by robotic arpeggiators and mechanical guitars that propel you to Mach-10. Completing the package are reinterpretations of ‘Storming Heaven’ which first appeared on Emerald & Doreen Recordings and pays homage to Jay Steven’s eponymous book on LSD and the American dream. Argentinian dark disco producer and member of Ralph Lawson’s 2020 Soundsystem, Julian Sanza, cranks up the funk and reconfigures the track into a Balearic sunset trip. UK godfather of chug Rich Lane isolates the original’s soaring guitar solo and reimagines the track into a mesmerising downtempo chugger tinged with psychedelia.

First single for Scuola Furano's forthcoming album 108. On Fire does like it says on the tin, brings that scorching temperature, wherever you are - it'll be hard not to break out a sweat to this one... and it doesn't end with the production, as we hear the gorgeous Italo-American vocals of Florious reign supreme throughout, cooing you to dance. The Glimmers recall the glory days of house, with a splash of Balearic, acid-twinge and disco flair so hypnotic you can't help but close your eyes and let the music take a hold of you. La Belle records mainstay Herr Styler punctuate this package with a mellow deep rework.

Martin Brodin's third single from the forthcoming album which is due for this summer.

Second one for you who forgot was Strings Attack, with remixes from Headman and Ilya Santana.

Agogo is a track with three different phases or sections. It starts as a slow intro bubbling deep house song for the first two and half minutes. After this it transforms to a spaced out disco-funk theme and then goes into the rhythmic break section. It keeps going until it ends up with the deeper part again. All in all a groovy track indeed.

William Bottin was pitched to choose a song from the album and this is the one he loved the most. He went into the studio creating what we would call, a typical Bottin remix. He takes us on a journey with lots of small actions going on throughout the track. Everything is very sublime and you have to check out the full song to appreciate it. A deep-disco-spaced out remix is the result.

Winner of a song contest run by a German underwear and bathing suit company in 1984. The prize was the production of a song with professional musicians - namely this very song. Judging by her rapping skills, the competition must have been a little on the weak side of things... 😆 It needed some seriously cheesy Schlager bits removed and more of the electronic good stuff. Discotexas return with Mirror People’s sterling ‘Kaleidoscope’ featuring a limited coloured vinyl release and a brand new remix from the excellent Psychemagik…

Rui Maia AKA Mirror People has been one of the hottest producers to come out of Portugal in recent years with a string of stunning releases on highly respected labels such as Permanent Vacation, Bear Funk, Hands of Time and of course eclectic disco merchants Discotexas. Now he is back on the imprint owned Moullinex and Xinobi with the superb ‘Kaleidoscope’ that will be receiving a vinyl release for the first time and features a brand new mix from Psychemagik.

The release kicks off with the original version of ‘Kaleidoscope’ a bubbling and funk fuelled disco outing that pulls together dramatic keys, a classic disco B-line and a myriad of heart warming melodic elements to create a sumptuous production that is genuinely timeless, quality stuff. The original version is followed by a remix from label boss Xinobi who turns in a superb reworking flush with bright piano stabs and stirring brass parts for an alternative that retains the original character whilst stamping it’s own mark on things.

Next up we have a brand new version of ‘Kaleidoscope’ from highly respected UK production duo Psychemagik. Tom & Danny, the faces behind the name, have been burning bright for some time with a string of outstanding single, remixes and exclusive edits helping them ascend to exhalted heights in recent months. Here they take the original track deliver a delightfully uplifting yet understated melodic mix that plays on arpeggiated synth lines, rich warm bass and shuffling percussion, simply sublime. The EP is closed with Mirror People’s ‘Machines’, a techy and taut production that reflects its title.

Fred Berthet is this mysterious Frenchman known as DJ STEEF who produced slow & funky downtempo house tracks in the past years. Based in Marseille this quiet but not shy producer has built his way on many different projects since the early 90’s where it all started.
After composing singles with Antoine Boullé under the pseudonym Venus Attack Project (on the label US Guidance), he created the band known as Troublemakers with his friend Lionel Corsini & Arnaud Taillefert. After an over-welcomed first LP ("Doubts & Convictions" on Guidance rec) and well received worldwide, Concecration came on the second one on Blue Note (“Express Way”) pushing The Troublemakers at one of the top electronic band in the French scene.
Fred later on focused his attention on Copyshop project, influenced by the 80’s (Gomma, Toy Tonics, La Dame Noir, Numoment...). Producing now under DJ Steef its was the occasion to synthesize his musical roots such as 80’s electro pop, poisonous disco, classy french influences, insistent downtempo and up warding house. Fred has found in his alter ego DJ Steef the perfect combinasion of incredible fat, slow, funky downtempo house tracks that every body is so crazy about.Its not about fashion but clearly about style & thats why we all love his production stamped BIOMIX, in the shadows, under cover & simply outstanding.
