This is a track created by myself and the campers of Arts in the Woods. These LGBTQ youth came together to create visual art, theater, musc and dance. As the music facilitator, I helped them create an original song. Martin Swinger gave me the words "All we need is a safe place. To learn, to grow to love to know, a safe place". Feathers and I wrote a melody and music arrangment for it, then we had the young people write thier own parts. We did some vocal improvisation that resulted in recording beat box sounds, yells, and mouth parts, then they wrote lyrics. Some of them rapped, some sang, but they all expressed thier unique personality. I am so proud of all of them and what we created together. It is an exuberant audio snap shot of the community we created !

I always heard this song as a gospel song. I was moved by Darren's message of divine self love and wanted to record it in a way that brought out that aspect of it. Darren has given me his blessing on this version and I have a licence to release it! 

The album that it will be on is called Raise It Up. It is all about love, over coming struggles, forgiveness, empowerment, spirit, and community.  It's a message that I am ready to share with the world. Music has the power to touch hearts and help people love themselves more. People who love themselves and feel empowered will carry that out into their communities, and that's how we change the world.
