Thoughts on Manifolds (GEN050) by https://soundcloud.com/blankws is a feather light, mixed-material showroom of synthetic objects, constantly rolling, constricting, zooming, bubbling, evoking some vast space. Impossibly thin, transparent foil, crisp, ice cold fluids, metal on rubber impacts etching elaborate diagrams and schemes into ambiguous, lush techno-reminiscent chords. The sound arrangement here is akin to a granular breeze, like an alien meteorology, a particle simulation turning into a textural primordial soup. Constantly in acceleration or deceleration, the listener knows every vast saturated pad is seconds away from the rush of a blast-off, almost intolerable G-forces, images flashing in front of one's eyes, bullet-like hard pans. These operations are like a valve being turned, the sudden pressure release causing a stream of some noble gas being set free, or opening a shutter suddenly providing a flicker of light highlighting the contours of some cavernous lost zone.

Blank Wall Season is an experimental electronic music project created by Kaan Işık. He is a composer and sound editor based in Istanbul who explores the relationship between new aesthetics and aspects of hearing in his sonic journey. After studying cinema and sonic arts, he founds his vision in music from eclectic perspectives that deepen his productions. Blank Wall Season blends acousmatic elements with complex textures. He has worked with renowned art galleries and clubs in Istanbul, Ankara, and Berlin by curating event series and expanding his network in art.

The 38th release of katharsis and our final release of 2023 is the prodigious compilation "Embracing Darkness, Absorbing Light" featuring a vast array of artist beloved by the label. Throughout the grandiose line-up of the 36 tracks, the listener is absorbed by various differing interpretations of the theme outlined in the title of the album. Some of the invited artist went full into introverted progressions and meditative sounds, while others focused on aggressive rhythms or anthemic melodies. But even though the styles and techniques of the songs differ from each other, the artists seem to have some commonality in their sonic palettes that binds it all together in a mutual love for music as a healing force of nature <3

RIFT One is the first instalment in a series of releases curated by YEAR0001, featuring contributions and commissions by a variety of highly innovative and influential artists.

By releasing this compilation ahead of schedule and donating all proceeds from purchases directly to community bail funds, mutual aid funds, and racial justice organisers we hope to make a small contribution towards awareness and change, and encourage our community to act against injustice and stand together in solidarity. 

Racial injustice, white supremacy and all forms of discrimination simply has no place in the culture we represent; we will continue to educate ourselves, listen, learn and find more ways to support both in a short and long term perspective.
