"Welcome to the first volume of "The Collabo Series", a collaborative effort between me and some of my closest homies, colleagues, and comrades. Each of these tracks were made in only a couple of days during random time off from shows on tour, in completely different locations, at completely different times, with completely different genres and artists (besides myself, although one could argue I was a completely different self at each of these sessions, but, I digress). Thriftworks and I sat down at his chill studio in Berkeley, CA and ended up sampling his cabinet hinges and a music box for our tune in the not so distant past, kLL sMTH and I in his heady paulo santo rinsed studio in Boulder, CO, Robotic Pirate Monkey also in their studio in Boulder, CO with a beautifully hazy view of the Rockies, and Samples at Mikey Fisher's studio in the tenderloin of San Francisco, with Samples collaboration being the oldest, written in early 2010 when we were both booked together at our first show in California, with the other three written in the past year or so."

Thriftworks x Freddy Todd - Cabinets Don't Make Noise [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Elements is a tribute to alchemy, the transformation of matter. I always believed that sampling has the potential to transform a dusty, forgotten moment into a vibrant landscape of fantastic impossibilities. Music has an alchemic property, transforming silence into song, nothing into something. I chose Fire, Air, Water, and Earth, the four basic element of alchemy, as seeds for these songs. 
The first, Slivers of Light, represents fire, the sun, and the light given by both. Your Ghost, a song dedicated to the memory of my father Tadeusz Menert, signifies the element of air, and the unseen spirits therein. Eventide's two parts embody the duality of water: Part 1 is the turbulent high tide, water's destructive powers, crashing along the shores into Part 2, which sweeps through the lifegiving and cleansing properties, a low tide of sorts. The album closes with Quiet Earth, a song for my mother, Jolanta, as well as the earth that we chisel away at as a species. This song begins with the noise of humanity, with a lone voice cry out "Do you see, just what you mean to me" until the commotion calms, signifying the end of us, a finality, a quiet earth. 
I hope you enjoy what I consider my favorite work so far, remastered and released as a whole, digitally, for the first time ever.

The Dream Never Sleeps is a tribute...not just to my life as a muscian, or as a goal-driven, ambitious human being...but to every hard-working individual inhabiting this planet that aspires to leave a legacy when our last breath escapes from my body, taking with it everything we've hoped to achieve in our short time on this earth. The artwork I chose for the album - a candle, encircling a clock, burning at both ends - symbolizes the time, blood, sweat, and tears that goes into reaching a goal or achieving a dream.

soooo i wrote this song over a year ago under 2-3 hours with headphones on a flight across the country to portland, OR, where i mixed it down at the hotel, bounced it, and played it that night at my show. the next day i get home to detroit, the file is corrupt and wont open (never happens), the next day, the hard drive dies. forever. the only remains of this song is the version i bounced at the hotel in portland... and i'm fine with that cuz i love this one so much. so i decided to master it and throw it on as a bonus to my new, lowkey, slightly chiller, free bandcamp album, "Moonflavours", which is officially out NOW: http://freddytodd.bandcamp.com/ enjoi
