Manchester based Freeda are set to release their new single ’Young’ via Ditto Music to all DSPs on 25th June 2021. Formed in 2017, Freeda spent their formative years establishing themselves in their hometown, building a committed following and selling out headline shows along the way. 

Highlights so far for the band include festival appearances at Dot 2 Dot, Tramlines Fringe, 110 Above and Y Not Festival. Freeda played a hometown headline show at the end of 2019 which sold out the iconic Deaf
Institute in Manchester. 2019 also saw the band start up a production partnership with highly acclaimed production duo Sugar House.

After a successful run of festivals and single releases over 2019 Freeda were determined not to let lockdown slow them down over 2020/21. Over this period Freeda have released two singles ‘Let Me Down’ and ‘5AM’ which saw the band reach in excess of 250,000 streams on Spotify. 

In February 2021, in partnership with Sugar House, Freeda released their latest single ‘5AM’ which received extensive backing from BBC Introducing and continued support from XS Manchester and Amazing Radio. Young, the second single from Freeda in 2021, is a rousing and energetic sound alongside lyrics that express a joy in letting go of worry and enjoying life to the fullest: “you got hung up on all the feelings, you’ve gotta let it go”. An extensive production combining synths and electronic percussion with the traditional guitar based sound, Freeda are aiming to bring something new to the table and establish themselves further.

With all their upcoming dates being postponed due to the COVID-19 Epidemic, the band have creatively been reaching out to their audience on social media with a series of videos called ‘The Corona Sessions’; these have quickly amassed over 500,000 views across social platforms.

Freeda are Sean Rowles, Callum Hignett, Cameron Meekums-Spence, Daniel Atherton, Adam Barton, and Adam Jackson. The band settled on their name after “a long line of bad names''. The band expanded on this by saying “We decided we wanted a short name preferably a female's first name, we became disheartened when all we could think of was ‘Alison’ and other like
minded names. Eventually the name Freda came up in conversation as we knew someone who had a grandma with that name. We all jumped at it, we added another ‘E' in, just for aesthetics, and settled on Freeda.”

A punchy rhythm section and energetic riffs demonstrate the chaotic passion that follows a one sided breakup. Freeda are reaching into their own personal growth to bring their finest work to the table to kick start their 2022.
