Exploited’s semi-regular “mini compilation” series continues, with Shir Khan collecting together a quartet of new cuts from the label’s extended roster featuring Psychodelico, Piemont, James Curd, Freeform Five/Tuff City Kids.

About the artists:
1. PSYCHODELICO
Psychodelico are a white duo from NY. Anthony & Martin met at University in the early 90’s. They immediately synched together and decided four years later to open a video rental store on the 5th Avenue.
The love for the 80’s and the rise of digital convinced them to hold tight to the VHS Library and start collecting all sorts of analogue machines knowing that one day for some reason it would have paid back.
For the last 3 years they have been discovering and enjoying their vinyls and watching with friends hundreds of old music video tapes. 
After getting inspired and writing some great music in the dusty basement that once used to be their store they finally decided to approach the dream label.
The story continues with Psycodelico’s first single “Sex On The Phone” getting signed to the mighty Exploited! A pure 80ies Cocktail: Human League and Depeche Mode Stylistico.

2. PIEMONT
Made up of long-time friends Frederic and Chris, the pair first decided to hook up and make music together back in 2007 and, since then have released on techno labels like Monika Kruse’s Terminal M, Area Remote, MBF and SKINT.
Piemont’s sound is best described as organic techno. Their music always comes stuffed with a sly robo-funk and is built in many rich layers. Their preference for ambient sounds, melodic lushness and abstract electronica makes every track different from the next - for evidence just listen to their recent 'Jack my Records' for Exploited, or earlier classics like Carbonat and Back Smoker.

3. JAMES CURD
After dropping "Red" and "I See Lights" on Exploited as Jimmy & Fred, the unstoppable Adelaide-based producer James Curd has teamed up with JDub (lead singer of the Greenskeepers Project) for a new collaborative track called “To Cool For School”. Anyone remember "Buffalo Girl" from 2008 featuring James Curd, Derrick Carter and JDub from 2008 on Greenskeepers Music? "To Cool For School" sounds like a proper update with illmatic verses and styles for 2014.

4. FREEFORM FIVE/TUFF CITY KIDS
The return of Anu Pillai’s Freeform Five has also coincided with a minor resurgence in electro clash – we’re not quite at 2007 levels yet but Five’s latest single (released earlier this year on Exploited), ‘Brandy Alexander‘ is pointing to something similar.
Pillai doesn’t really do simplicity, and ‘Brandy Alexander‘ sees the producer back to his most daring concocting a mixture of rolling acid lines, clash-y vocals and twisted basslines – and with an unreleased remix by Tuff City Kids 'Brandy Alexander' is back in safe hands.
Based just outside of Frankfurt Tuff City Kids is the alias for production duo Gerd Janson, boss of Running Back and long time DJ (Resident DJ in Panoramabar and Robert Johnson) and Arto Mwambe member Philip Lauer. Besides their far-reaching and esteemed solo careers, Tuff City Kids have provided remixes for high-profile artists such as Azari & III, Tensnake and Ali Love and released original EPs on Delsin and Osgut Ton sub-label Unterton. For Freeform Five's "Brandy Alexander" they delivered a stylish Italo-Disco-Update on Exploited which has been roadtested several times at Panoramabar Berlin and finally sees a release.

Shir Khan Presents Secret Gold 05 (Preview) | Exploited

UK based producer Freeform Five links with Infinity Ink’s Ali Love on ‘Throwing Stones’, their first collaboration and their debut on Dutch label Spinnin’ Deep.
 
After releasing on Hot Creations with Hot Natured and original material on Crosstown Rebels, Ali Love finds himself delivering another standout collaboration with Freeform Five. ‘Throwing Stones’ delivers a deep bassline, soulful piano melody and intoxicating vocals for strong dancefloor appeal.
 
Freeform Five, whose last collaboration was with Róisín Murphy, says this new material with Ali Love developed organically after they reconnected a few years ago. The pair of experienced artists showcase a seduction sound profile influenced by classic soul, funk and disco, which fused with electronic music, delivers a feel-good track.
 
‘Throwing Stones’ is set for release May 29.

In these fast-moving times, where many acts come and go in the space of a few blog posts, it's becoming harder and harder to find artists with true staying power. Anu Pillai aka Freeform Five is one of those rare artists. A veteran of the dance music scene, he started to release records on the seminal labels Classic, Glasgow Underground and NRK back in 1998. He soon worked his way into the premier league of remixers, producing some of the most stunning reworks of the last decade for artists as diverse as N*E*R*D, Brian Wilson, X-Press 2 & David Byrne, Jamie Lidell, Justin Timberlake, Felix da Housecat and The Killers – as well as work for cutting edge labels like Warp and Cocoon. 
He’s spent a small fortune carbon offsetting his airmiles with DJ & live appearances at Fabric / The End / Ministry of Sound (London), Space / Manumission / Ibiza Rocks (Ibiza), Cocoon (Frankfurt), Watergate / Cookies / Week End (Berlin), Razzmatazz (Barcelona), D-Edge (Sao Paolo), Womb / Ageha / Unit (Tokyo), Rex / Social Club / Paris Paris (Paris), LAX (LA), and Lux (Lisbon) – plus tours of Scandinavia, Australia, America, and all the major festivals, including Glastonbury, T In The Park, Benicassim, Parklife and Pukkelpop. Anu has also released Freeform Five’s debut album ‘Strangest Things’ on Atlantic records, two massive DJ mix albums, ‘Bisous Bisous II’ & ‘Misch Masch’ and contributed to several of Kitsuné’s genre defining compilations.
Following a relentless touring schedule, Anu decided to take a break from Freeform Five a few years back to concentrate on writing, producing & remixing for the likes of Ladyhawke, Santigold, William Orbit, Eve, Lana Del Rey, Deadmau5, Little Boots and Roisin Murphy amongst others. He also set up boundary-pushing label Perspex Recordings with releases from Chicago legend Derrick Carter, French rockers Poney Poney /Jamaica (produced by Xavier from Justice) and Swedish auteur ‘The Subliminal Kid’ (producer of Fever Ray & Matthew Dear) along with remixes by like minded friends such as Gabriel Ananda, Riton, Tomboy & Riva Starr. 
Anu has always thought outside the box. His remix of Isolee's 'Beau Mot Plage' redefined the art of remixing, juxtaposing the micro synthesis of the original with intricate Afro & Latin polyrhythms, creating a bona-fide house music classic. Remixes of Llorca's "Indigo Blues" and Isolee's "Brazil.com" fused west African kora, Indian orchestrations and classical harp within a house music template and on the Freeform Five track 'Eeeeaaooww' he merged disco licks with Bounty Killer's dancehall patois. 
Anu returned to the scene by collaborating with Gambian griot and master musician Juldeh Camara (a member of Robert Plant's Sensational Space Shifters band) for "Weltareh" on Eskimo recordings.  He also hooked up with Berlin's white hot Exploited crew for the jacking pure analog "Brandy Alexander." And now on "Leviathan" he teams up with the legendary Roisin Murphy for an exercise in irresistible vocal power and anthemic feel good house.
Tom Trago, Compuphonic and Cage & Aviary join the the stellar list of super talented artists who've been invited to remix Freeform Five tracks (following on from Tiefschwarz, Radioslave, Alter Ego, Lindstrom, Mylo, M.A.N.D.Y, Switch, Ewan Pearson, Jackson & His Computer Band, Prins Thomas and Maurice Fulton to name a few) along with a stunning re-work from Anu himself.
