Chris Odium is a new face on the Dissident label roster, but he’s been a friend of the label (and on our musical radar) for a very long time! His deep, melodic releases on labels from Silk Music to Nuevadeep have delivered consistent inspiration and emotional moments for over a decade. His signature sound blurs lines between deep house, techno and progressive, and we’re really happy to welcome him to Dissident Music!

Augmented Reality soars with classic Detroit-style pad stabs, ethereal melodies, and whispered vox, all underwritten by a captivating Reese bassline and grooving drums. Freerange welcomes Italian producer/DJ/label boss Enzo Elia for his debut on the label entitled The Lost Guitar Tapes.  Enzo is someone who has been releasing consistently great music for many years, although often hidden behind a myriad of pseudonyms and underground imprints. For starters he’s responsible for a mysterious yet established and very excellent edits label as well as being a member of Balearic Gabba Sound System alongside Bjorn Torske amongst others.  Following the philosophy of this collective, Enzo is also producing lovingly and respectfully created re-edits of long lost techno and house tracks as well as many new tunes for influential labels including Golf Channel and Compost.

But for now we turn to The Lost Guitar Tapes and specifically the original mix of Drifting which opens up the release with a brilliant tension builder.  A rolling bassline, crisp minimal drums and a subtly Middle Eastern-influenced melodic line give just a hint of mysticism to this jewel of a track.

For the remix we have none other than the Tel Aviv via Berlin producer
Moscoman, fresh from his brilliant debut LP on ESP Institute and releases on Eskimo and his own Disco Halal label.  Moscoman’s organic, percussion-heavy sound and Middle Eastern roots make him the perfect choice to take on Drifting and we couldn’t have wished for a better outcome.  He manages to inject his own identity to the track with newly recorded live guitar and bass parts and taking in elements of techno, new wave and house, he’s created a sublime piece of dancefloor drama.

Finally we have an alternate Dub version which lays down a firmer four on the floor, extra percussion and dubby stabs for a more driving atmospheric club tool.

Everytime i get new music from Affkt i am excited to put it on and dive into his sound universe. His productions are always packed with interesting layers and little surprises. I have never heard a track by this guy i didn't like. They all have something really unique. When i heard Sunset Riders the first time i just gave in and turned the speakers up to max and started nodding like a crazy person. Everything about this track puts a smile on my face and makes me wanna go straight back to the club even on a Monday morning.

The mysterious Toronto based Las Von makes his debut appearance with Aethereal's 68th release featuring two edits of title track 'Trappist' and trance gem 'Disarray' in this provocative offering.

Beginning with the 'Intro Mix', Las Von creates a lavish soundscape that magically builds from a retro laden collage of oscillating synthesizer sounds and sequenced bells to a bright and compelling percussive explosion... if only to drift off for just a bit to set the stage for a hefty kick drum to tackle the bassline in an intertwining commencement of progressive glory. The playful tussle between the kick and bass are catapulted into overdrive as the entire piece melds together as swift arpeggiated leads and sultry pads are folded into the mix, all the while the inviting lure of the original theme from the beginning rises to full effect, thus transporting this stalwart and emotional tune to its stoic ending.

The 'Original Mix' starts with the familiar nostalgic mood of the 'Intro Mix', employing the crooning vintage synth parts and the ethereal lead motifs which frolic about in the background. And as expected, a staunch rhythm quickly engages, dropping the foundation for the delightfully haunting pads, ghostly leads, and searing bassline to take flight. Happily, this mix progresses intelligently, revealing an energetic passion of sonic achievement, skillfully luring the listener into an introspective and deep listening experience. 

Finally, 'Disarray' promptly stomps into the sonic landscape as an energetic exercise of enthralling beats, stabbing bass and captivating sequences that coalesce into a melodic powerhouse of a tune. Las Von's driving bassline is showcased in the finale as the rhythm subtly trails off leaving only the bass and key synth elements to close the track out in a fulfilling finish.

Following their much acclaimed surprise debut, VERMONT’s sophomore longplayer presented “another set that rewards deep listening” (AllMusic) and “a mix of simplicity and richness” whose result is “a feeling of spaciousness and a thrilling sense of weightlessness” (XLR8R). Stripping away even more percussion than on its predecessor, “II” saw @MarcusWorgull and Danilo Plessow zooming in on ambience, texture and sonic cohesiveness, allowing “each electronic voice to come into focus” (Pitchfork). Now, “II REMIXES” puts the beat back into the mix, thanks to iconic artists @DIXON, @I-CUBE and WASSERMANN (@wolfgang_voigt) who each develop their own irresistible groove out of the immersive source material. As one of the album’s most highlighted cuts, DSCHUNA gets the royal treatment by Innervisions head and internationally revered selector DIXON who proves his strong command of the dance floor with a hypnotic ride that surrounds the soaring sounds of the original with tribal- esque vocals. The instrumental version drops the chants, but retains the enchantment, all elegant rhythm and gorgeous strings. Versatile’s I:CUBE, legendary producer and DJ in its own right, brings a distinctly Parisian touch to the spectral SKORBUT, whose sci-fi-imbued widescreen aura gets reimagined as laser-gun-wielding space funk machine. Vermont - Dschuna (Dixon Instrumental Mix)

A collaboration of like-minded artists and remixers make for a brimming EP of transcendental house music on Maga & Nhii’s debut for Flying Circus Recordings. The two upcoming producers, who have between them released music on Stil Vor Talent, The Gardens Of Babylon, Rebellion der Traumer and Kindisch, pair up across two tracks, and remix duties are ably handled by Tim Engelhart and Wild Dark.

‘Monogram’ is a breezy and seductively dynamic track, buoyed with huge waves of synths and cinematic sweeps, with a rolling rhythm that is simply irresistible. Wild Dark follow up their recent release for Supernature with a more percussive and tribal re-working of ‘Monogram’ whilst still retaining the epic feel already constructed in its original form.

Accompanying track, ‘Sirens Of Space’ gets cosmically charged for an epic eleven-minute trip, resplendent with shimmering keys and galactic drones, all underpinned with a steady and progressive groove. The ever-prolific Tim Engelhardt (Poker Flat/Watergate) deploys a fantastic remix that reduces the elements to a more direct and terse translation.

Premiere: Maga & Nhii - Monogram (Wild Dark Remix) [Flying Circus]

After a seriously great year for Sudbeat in 2012 featuring music from Nick Warren, Guy J, Vincenzo, Dave Seaman, Microtarauma, Christian Smith and Argy to name just a few.. they're back for 2013 sporting brand new artwork and the main man himself back with a release Hernan Cattaneo and his studio partners Soundexile.
And so lets start with the original from Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile with Infoxication, a deep infectious housey edged groover with techie tinges. Warm, phat and a full sound hypnotically locks you in, while subtle melodics ping around adding space and depth. Deeper then many would expect from the pair, but proving their musical diversity, this really is a tasty slab of underground goodness.
To complete this package is an awesome choice of remixer Chaim who has released on such formidable labels as Supplement Facts and Cocoon. His mix utilises the main melodies from the original, but taking the track more stripped back, providing plenty of space, leaving your mind to wander as the track weaves from moments of melody to times of just bassline and kick drum. Its deep, deadly and will work a treat on the Worlds coolest dance floors.
