Ultra Knites return with their first release of 2014, the follow up to their debut from late last year which gained the duo much credibility and recognition from some the scenes leading players.  UKR002 finally sees the release of a 'Extacy', a track that has been in demand for over a year having been used as a 'secret weapon' in the duo's own DJ sets.  It has been described as genius, but the formula is simple - a stabby rhodes riff acompanied by an infectious vocal hook while a cleverly filtered pad weaves in and out until eventually, the filters open and the track erupts.  UK veteran Danny J Lewis steps up for remix duties - a personal inspiration to the pair since the mid 90's who delivers his own unique stamp on the track.  "In My Life" takes things into another direction, however the duo's trademark sound remains instantly recognisable - throbbing basslines, filtered synth pads, ruffed up beats and a keyboard solo.  Once again this EP has something for everyone and as always, we bring it to you on 180g vinyl.

20 Years Of Freerange - 5 x Vinyl Box Set LP

June 2016 sees Freerange Records celebrate 20 years at the top. The label, run by Jamie ‘Jimpster’ Odell and Tom Roberts, is marking the occasion with the summer release of a carefully curated and lovingly assembled 20 track, five vinyl box set featuring exclusive new music from associates old and new, as well as with a worldwide events series.

Over the last two decades, generations of DJs and dancers have gotten down to the Freerange sound. Initially that was a mix of sample-heavy productions incorporating live musicians, flirtations with the broken beat sound and some ground breaking fidget house cuts from Switch and Trevor Loveys. Then, and most enduringly, the label settled into a rich vein of deep house. Shur-I-Kan, Kirk Degiorgio, Milton Jackson, Trackheadz, Stimming as well as Jimpster ushered in this most recent chapter, and in turn the label has helped make household names of many more previously unknown talents from Detroit Swindle to Manuel Tur, Andre Lodemann to Tony Lionni. Wherever you look amongst the hundreds of EP and LP releases on Freerange, you will find nuance and evolution, dance floor sensibility and genuine emotional impact.

That same sense of timelessness characterises this new compilation, which is packed with great music from the likes of KiNK, Pittsburgh Track Authority, Kuniyuki, Kito Jempere, Soul of Hex, Clavis, Detroit Swindle, and of course Jimpster himself, as well as a whole host of other Freerange regulars. There are many highlights across the 20 track package including a warm and skipping house cut from Bulgarian live specialist KiNK, a typically slow burning and beautifully arcing epic from Andre Lodemann and spaced out jack tracks from classically inclined Liverpudlian Tony Lionni.

Big name stars like Detroit Swindle return in style with a robust and acid laced banger, the ever-underrated Milton Jackson builds something melodically magical and Pittsburgh Track Authority layer up majestic string stabs and rubbery bass into soul infused future music. Jimpster himself bolsters the whole package both solo and with Luv Jam as well as remixing Tim Toh, and on each occasion proves why he is one of the pivotal figures of the UK deep house scene.

Few labels make it to twenty releases let alone twenty years strong. Often doing so without making any real fuss, now is the time that Freerange Records deserves its time in the spotlight, and this compilation more than proves that.

'Eyedyllic Music is starting it’s 2019 release plan off with a serious bang; presenting a uniquely talented Brooklyn-based artist, releasing his debut EP under the moniker, J Gabriel. 

The You Know/What They Say EP boasts two incredible J Gabriel originals, and also features stunning remixes from deep house legends, Vincenzo and Nick Holder.

With the lead title cut, You Know, J Gabriel masterfully implements his minimalistic approach toward house music, painting an introspective and imaginative picture that inspires and moves. The magic is in the details, and on this one it’s all about the catchy bass-line and well-programmed chords, which create an inspirational vibe when paired with carefully selected spoken-word samples, embedded in classic deep house roots.

On the remix tip, Vincenzo steps up first; making use of You Know’s strongest elements, by utilizing the original bass-line and creating what he himself calls an “immersive” vibe. Deep, driving, melodic and perfectly arranged for maximum dancefloor effect, is this wonderful remix from Vincenzo.

Toronto-based house connoisseur Nick Holder then delves deep into his repertoire on his remix, turning in a lovely rendition of You Know; reminiscent of NYC-style underground house music, by donning the cap of his well-revered Trackheadz moniker.

The EP comes to a close with a perfect B-side, in What They Say. The vibes are thick, as J Gabriel shows his love of dubby atmospheric dancefloor cuts with this one, which should be well-suited for more underground and discerning DJs and dance floors.

Andy Ash has been quietly sneaking out seriously good analogue-driven electronic music on some of the best underground labels for over a decade. The Liverpool-based producer, DJ and visual artist has graced the likes of Chicago’s Stilove4music, NYC’s On The Prowl, Sydney’s People Must Jam and has remixed Fantastic Man for Detroit label Kolour LTD amongst many others. The bottom line is that he’s definitely one of the UK’s unsung heroes when it comes to deep, raw, Chicago and Detroit-influenced house music and we’re proud to welcome him to Delusions Of Grandeur with an amazing three tracker entitled the Bottleneck EP.

The title track opens with snappy hats, flappy congas and sloppy baseline all sitting perfectly in the mix and with a looseness that is much harder to achieve that it may seem. A simple synth melody doubles up the bassline while an extra square wave lead adds that little extra hook without distracting us from the bouncing groove. With Bottleneck, less is definitely more.

Flipping over we have Hump, an altogether darker affair with a twisting acid line joining distorted 808 drums and tripped-out snippets of spoken word coming in and out of focus. The low-slung bumpy groove and spacey synth parts make this a compelling warehouse track which will draw everyone into it’s seductive confines.

Closing the release we have Actual Price, a shuffling, deep groover with rumbling low end and machine-like analogue synth part skipping around the crunchy beats. A cerebral yet punchy and dynamic closer to an excellent release!
