We are delighted to welcome one of our all-time favourite Norwegian producers to the Phonica Mix Series - Bård Aasen Lødemel aka Skatebård. Dating back to the early 2000s, Skatebård's predominantly house and techno-focused productions have been picked up and released by such labels as Sex Tags Mania, Bordello A Parigi, Full Pupp, Untz Untz, Live At Robert Johnson and, of course, his own Digitalo Enterprises imprint. On Oct 6th 2021, about 2 years after my last set in London, I played from open to close (11pm to 5am) at Village Underground in Shoreditch. Here's a recording of the whole night with a bit of the crowd noise. 

Perhaps a full tracklist at some point... some unreleased stuff in here. 

Even though it had been a while, we had all night so no use in rushing things! I came across a lot of lovely music this year, but it mostly lived in my rekordbox or in a radio mix. I actually record a lot of my sets but it always feels like they're in a constant state of iteration, making it hard to pick just one "version" to release. Over the years I feel like this has led me to only very sparingly drop live-recorded sets. A "party" doesn't often lend itself to the archivable realm, maybe the memories are best suited to the ephemeral. 

Anyway, eternal gratitude crystals to those who came and those who danced, and to those listening now.

I met Francesco in 1996, he usually came to the record store I was working at in Frankfurt (Delirium Records) straight after a good night out at the OMEN on Saturday morning and hung out with his friends for quite some time listening to the new records we dropped (knowing they would function really well ;)).
We've been friends since and occasionally, when I need time out from Berlin and some inspiration, I stay a few days at his place in Dietzenbach (near Offenbach).
Last Saturday, we spontaneously streamed 2 live DJ sets to my Blast Radio channel and on Sunday night, we just streamed another one.
The 3rd one is too good to be leaving the internet after 24 hours, so we uploaded it here for your listening pleasure. We might even upload the other 2 mixes, let us know in the comments if we should do so!

Paramida is a breath of fresh air on the Berlin scene. Her sound and style goes against the dark, mono-chromatic, machine made music of most of the city and instead heads in a more colourful and Balearic direction. She pushes a bright and emotional sound, and runs the Love on the Rocks label with a similar aim. She calls herself ‘Berlin’s most hated’ but surely isn’t, instead she’s picking up ever more fans because of her “discofied tropical leanings” and passion for unusual house music. 

And you can expect plenty of that in her podcast. It soundtracks a slow awakening with retro synths drawing you into, and jumbled grooves ranging from dreamy to sunset in style. The overall vibe is one a late eighties house party in Ibiza with plenty of curveballs and moments of subtle euphoria all included. It’s refreshing alternative to the Berlin sound the world knows and loves, and is a timely and welcome edition to our own series.
