As one of the brightest new faces in the local Helsinki scene, Carlina Carpelan has quickly made a name for herself. Her sound and selections have a signature feel to them, but still stay up to date with the current sounds of the club world. She describes this mix as a shared mixed platter of both personal and more dancefloor ready anthems. Even though she stays true to the cornerstones and most important elements to her, the newly added warmth and light has brought a completely new in her record collection.

On February 6th, two earthquakes took the lives of over 40,000 and counting Turkish, Syrian and Kurdish people, and displaced millions more, in what is one of the most devastating natural disasters of the 21st century. The effects of this disaster will be felt for years to come, and we as an international community need to raise money however we can to help, and also need to keep the crisis visible in global news.

On Sunday, February 19th, we hosted a fundraiser event over two floors at arkaoda Berlin, in collaboration with Root Radio, Radio Alhara and Resident Advisor. It was be a chance for people from the affected communities to meet and mourn together, to listen to some DJs from these regions play downtempo sets, to buy some donated artworks and crafts and, most importantly, to raise money. 

Together, we raised 12,000€ which was split equally between three reliable organisations: AHBAP who focus on Turkey, The White Helmets focusing on Syria and Heyva Sor focusing on Kurdish people.

The ever smiling South-African joined us a year ago for an in-store session as the Ata Kak bandleader, today he’s back solo for recording an in-store mix. Taking it from West-Indies spiritual afro-jazz fusion to Jorge Ben and Wally Badarou, his selection showcases some of the musical influences behind his work as a producer.

Esa Williams is an energy filled artist. The London based South African is part of a specific breed of talent challenging the electronic music scene. Drawing influences from his roots but firmly looking towards the future, he embodies a sound without limitations.

We don't know a great deal about him/her/they/them other than we stumbled across their page and found two great mixes on there. Mix wise it moves through a lot of genres, styles and tempos as this was recorded live at a former convenience store turned sky bar somewhere in the south west of the Netherlands! Its a long one but well worth the time. It sound tracked many recent flights for us and hit the spot! Enjoy the trip :)

All this self-isolating has got us built up with bags of energy, step up Scott Fraser of Body Hammer and Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London to service this.

Ravers, party makers and creation of flavours - both Scott and Quinn are no strangers to dance music and the club scene. Born and raised in Glasgow, now based in London, Scott Fraser has been part of the electronic music and club community as a dancer, music fan, club promoter, DJ and recording artist for over 30 years. The rather elusive Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London would be foolish to be ignored... this is the real deal: dirty, repetitive music for DJ's & dancers. ha-how-ha-how-ha-how-ha-howse nae shon!

Scott and Quinn lift us from under our feet over this soundtrack for the night time as we manoeuvre through this 1-hour and 40-minutes of hypnotic House rhythms galvanized in Acid, who said staying in couldn't get rowdy?
