Facets brings the release in with a dark, EBM:ish edit of Der whilst Manao then moves us over to a grittier, ghettotech:ish electro piece with Jane. From there we have recurring face for many, RFX, who does his usual brilliance on his take of Ambition. Our third and final new face, Ecar, then takes the relay baton and keeps the race going with Propaganda. Both tracks work in the sphere of where you want to kickstart the party to the next gear. We round off with our home team trio, where Miro-Benji and Stuster show their heavier, 4am sounds on Sonic 3D (yes… that Sonic) and Universal Music. Aaron Maple then puts the finishing touches with his signature sound on his Hot Day In Istanbul edit.

Free Shelter invites the Korea based, director by day/DJ by night, @airtothebear for the 23rd installment of their guest mix series on IDA Radio.

With guest mixes on, sheeesh... most of the critically acclaimed radio stations around the world as well as gigs at infamous spots like Pistil and(the now closed)Contra, it's safe to say that getting the Korean-American Airbear to jump on our show feels like a huge honor. 

When listening to Aarons (aka Airbear, in case you missed that one)mixes it becomes apparent in a short time the skill he has honed over the years. Mixing seamlessly through genres like he would transition from one scene to another in a movie. It all just... floats? 

Anyways, for this mix he has chosen a more clubbier sound, something that might seem leftfield for some of his followers. But hey, we're not complaining. This is what we want, and you do as well. You probably just didn't know it yet.

Free Shelter Invites #23: Airbear 🇰🇷

Free Shelter invites the Berlins top shelf tastemaker, Anacalypto, for their 24th guest mix on Ida Radio. 

The Netherlands born, but Berlin based DJ/Record collector/Tastemaker, Anacalypto is known for the infamous "music blog" Instagram account donning the same name.

Anacalypto, meaning “discover” in Greek, expresses the digging passion for unknown treasures. Its well reputed Instagram page captures the imagination of many music enthusiasts with hidden gems from the 80s and 90s. Anacalypto’s repertoire brings flair to its uplifting DJ sets, mixing a wide array of music like trance, house and disco in a way that is bound to make you dance.

For this mix, he has brought a variety of tunes spanning between the tribal rhythms of techno, while flowing into the hypnotic rhythms of trance and progressive sounds. Just what the doctor ordered for sweaty night out in the summer time!

DJ JVS is a Helsinkian producer/DJ, currently signed to the local label Below0. For JVS, music means emotions in a sonic form. Something that becomes quite clear when hearing his productions.

To encapsulate the previous sentiment, DJ JVS has brought the gems of his trance collection in to the mix. Variety of sensations guaranteed with the futuristic sounds of the past.

Sacha is one of those special DJs that really needs no introduction. If you’ve done your work and scrambled through enough podcasts/radio show/gig mixes on Soundcloud, you know who he is. 

The way he manages to find the links between completely disparate styles of music and weave them together to create life changing moments and rich narratives is what really solidified him on the scene, funny how 20 years of experience can have an effect, huh?

When he’s not DJing all over the world, Sacha runs the esteemed Macadam Mambo record Label, showcasing talents from all over the spectrum… much like his own tastemaking to be frank. 

So sit back and let Sacha do the Mambo number 5, oh sorry.. number 32 in our series. Honored to have him on board!

Besides his residencies, the man of the hour has made (probably his biggest) imprint via the critically acclaimed label Hard Fist. Focusing on hard hitting sounds with hints of musical soundscapes from every corner of the room. A big favorite from our crew.

Free Shelter invites Helsinki's modern day prince of darkness, Glayden, for their 38th guest mix on IDA Radio. 

As a founding member of the collective BELOW0 and club programme Club Zero, Glayden has taken the Helsinki UG scene with storm. Rising within a year to be a household name is only something you have to admire, yeah?

Jumping through anything between trance, eurodance, autotune, trap and so on (believe you me, we could continue the list) what Glayden and the collective has found is a significant sound in the BPM range (and musical sphere) you’ve always said you didn’t like… but you know (and we know) that deep down you do. 

From their highlight stage at Flow Festival last summer to residencies at local legendary spots in Helsinki… the world is Glayden's and BELOW0's oyster. We’re happy to be part of journey with this mix.

Miro-Benji & Stuster - Masters Of Reality

Free Shelter invites Edinburghs biggest collecta, calmest selecta;   @dablojenks, for their 39th guest mix in their Free Shelter Invites series. 

You like techy house? Nugetty beats? Yeah thought so... then you most likely have stumbled upon the highly rated instagram profile "Romanian Bits". Dablo, who steps up on the plate this month, founded this profile which then quickly transformed to the club RMN.BTS and record label Lemon Herb Records. Safe to say we're in good hands this time aroun, yeh? 

Having been introduced to music at a young age, he found himself immersed in the house music subculture. Following seasons in Ibiza and religiously attending festivals such as Sunwaves and
Houghton, Dale was able to broaden his music taste and develop a versatility for exploring new music and scenes with his own music.
Dale has supported the likes of Anthea, Voigtmann, Silverlining, Reiss, Subb-an, Lamache & Per Hammar to name a few (quite the company ay?). 

Working through the different shapes of tech and deep house, with punching and rolling sounds, this mix is perffffect for the colder and darker weathers that's hitting us now. Quite the moodsetter if you will. 

Seeing as 2023 has seen all of the collective projects grow massively for Dablo and his partners, with events around the UK and beyond, we're happy to have him join the series before it's too late. Buckle up for this ride!

Free Shelter invites fashion designer by day/Trance extraordinaire by night, @anthonyabbadessa, for their 40th  guest mix in their Free Shelter Invites series on IDA Radio. 

“New Yorks Finest”, a infamous saying that gets passed around often. For Tony Rainwater, however, it is applicable. Making a big name for himself via his own fashion brand under his artist name, he should most likely be just as (if not more) known for his musical output. 

Running his own imprint called Fallen Star Erotica and with releases in labels like Reptillian Trax and Infinite Audio, we weren’t joking about his musical output. Somehow making his trancey sound work in all setting and transcend genres. A feat not many can put to their name. 

He explains his personal sound as maximalist, impatient and spazzy. Having this as the go-to buzzwords for the big 4-0 mix in our series works well in our favor. In a previous interview Tony said explain how he sometimes hear people say strange stuff like “you can’t have big, amazing songs back to back in a mix—you need to space them out!!!”. Well he doesn’t believe that, and neither do we.

Free Shelter Invites #40: Tony Rainwater 🇺🇸

Free Shelter invites the musical pastry chef from Crimea, @djmiura, for their 41st guest mix in their Free Shelter Invites series on IDA Radio.

The lifestory and musical career of Miura can not easily be compared to others, whilst starting her professional career as a Pastry chef, she early on got a feeling of mixing (or should we say blending) ingredients. I guess you see where we're going with this, yeah?

Growing up in Crimea, music was a constant presence in her life, especially her fathers composes during family gatherings. She used her musical past with her cooking presence and quickly gained an upper hand on musical production, which then transitioned into an illustrious DJ career.

While Ibiza became a place of solace and comfort during the Ukrainian War, her work as the Art Director at Vognyk Bar and Resident at Kureni mixed with her current home of Berlin have all together blended into what her career has become, where her selections reflects as her own personal diary.

We're stoked to have her kick-off our 2024 season, and so should you. Vsi na bortu!

Free Shelter invites the bibimbap bowl with a french twist (whatever that is), @krijka, for their 42nd guest mix in their Free Shelter Invites series on IDA Radio.

Born in France but based in Seould, Krijka is one name not many probably know (yet) but soon will (guaranteed). With a few own releases, for instance the solo EP on Hard Beach Entertainment, the man of the hour has quickly garnered a big rep in his new hometown of Seoul by showcasing a personal sound not heard before. 

Krijka explains sets and productions as transformative journeys. Where fusing acid, hypnotic techno, progressive house and even a wee-bit of trance can be found. 

For his mix this time around, he does not shy away from the description and does what he does best.

A versatile force in multidisciplinary artistry, that merges music, painting, fashion, and event promotion with unwavering dedication, are just some ways to describe the Pachanga DJ founding member 1Night Only.

With a highly distinctive curated vinyl collection, his collection of sought after balearic and spanish oddities are mixed with modern progressive and techy sounds to form a nuance unheard or seen by many and which has made significant mark in his hometown of Madrid. 

Collaborative sets with the likes of Eternal Love, Raphael Top-Secret, Trujillo, Maï-Linh and Paramida (to name a few), it has become evident he can work around several soundscapes but still find a common ground.

Furthermore, as a co-founder of Red Sofa Radio, he provides a platform for both local and international artists to share their stories and showcase their artistry. Nestled in the heart of Madrid, this initiative embodies his commitment to fostering creativity and nurturing talent within the community.

Anatolian Weapons starts of the compilation with a mystic edit of “Days of Future Past”. Kompleks follows him with more energy on “Revolution, Revolutions”,  a love child of dark, tribalistic synths. From there we let our homegrown heroes Aaron Maple and Miro-Benji take charge and steer us further into the night. Aaron puts the pedal to the metal with his rendering of “Ethno-Techno”, that continues the tribal road that Kompleks led us onto.  Miro-Benji give us a final punch of summer with A-Danze. Proto house with a hint of trance bongos (whatever that might mean) in a piece that’s worthy of one last dance in the night.

Lau Tropico then proceeds with his take on Djulu, that eases us for the heavier load coming in later. Aaron Maple do his usual magic that we’ve all been accustomed to with his edit of This Is A Sound. A sure-fire party starter that’ll make even the most modest guest make this feet do a 1-2 step. Ramin and Reda continues on, where Aaron left us, with their heavily middle-eastern inspired Dehati and guides us for our final number by the man behind the operation; Miro-Benji. The release ends with, in his own words, an “anti-edit” of Love Will Tear Us Apart. One of those tracks that is perfect as an ender but still leaves the listener urging for more.

Fauve Records head honcho RFX kicks us off with his work on Assid Rayn. With the infamous releases on Fauve as well as the always welcomed Bandcamp Friday special “Ephemeral Edits” releases, we’ve been waiting to collaborate with this fella and me-oh-my was the wait worth it. ASSS-ASSSIIIIID. We continue with a couple of legends in this so-called “edits game”. Running Hot, the infamous duo from UK that does not need any introduction, and among our personal favourites. Our homegrown Aaron Maple continues on the third act, where he does his usual magic on My Maya. To end the 9th edition, Miro-Benji breaks the beat with World Championships. A track that stays true to its title and works just as well in a sweaty warehouse as it does in a Colin McRae rally game in the arcade hall. This is one we suggest you save for a special post-covid moment, when the dance floor is your oyster and the crowd is in the palm of your hands.
