Bside Incoming: Discothèque Tropicale

The next instalment (#167) of the B-side podcast invites an event series, record label and DJ collective who go by the name of Discothèque Tropicale.

A project created in the celebration of borderless music and diverse creative cultures from across the world. Their global musical voyage has taken them to every corner of all things soulful and funky; with lots of Brazilian influence, Zouk, Soukous, Funaná and Reggae. Their record label has had a heavy focus on Afro-Carribean reissues (especially Zouk), and their upcoming release has already been played by heavyweight DJs such as Antal, Hunee and Palms Trax! 

Keep an eye out for their future reissues, and their sets Ion and Westival in the UK this summer! Until then, enjoy some sunny tropical sounds from the Bside of Discothèque Tropicale’s impressively global collection.

The weather is starting to warm up and we have a hot new contribution to our mix series from our good friend and resident DJ @zo2🏆 Alonso (Summer League) is a part of @footworkcoffeeservice here in Los Angeles and has also contributed to various radio stations such as NTS and dublab. You can also find his artistic direction not only with footwork coffee service but with some of our flyers as well ;-) 

As Alonso mentioned on this mix-

welcome along to our Mixtape Paradiso advent calender für music lovers & vinyl dreams.
First up is Christos Davidopoulos , the soul of the legendary independent Optimal record store in Munich where I bought my first TV Personalities 45  sometime in the early 80´s after a long ride with my tuned up Velo Solex,comin all the  way  from Augsburg town.
Christos is a living encyclopedia of music & subculture literature and the only collector of christmas records that I know, here in his little mixtape he showcases his love for Jamaican early soulful Reggae & Rocksteady 45s , with some late 70´s lovers thrown in for good measure.
This set was recorded at our Waxsafari spring edition record fair 3/2024 @ Perle.Munich.

Lights, camera, action for a true DJ underground heroe, Tyrolian native DJ Enne. I met him first on some Cosmic music events back in the 80´s where he was THE man & the connection to the Italian cosmic music scene , especially to a certain Mr Beppe Loda. Dec 8 Mixtape Paradisco advent calender Florian Keller live @ Perle Munich 2024

Xmas is just round the corner and as I was going through the mix archive. I came across this lovely segment from my old friend, DJ, Remixer, Victor Rosado. Victor as mentioned before has been DJing since the 80s. He has played at David Mancuso‘s Loft Parties and similar trust in his DJing led to him being invited by his close friend Larry Levan to play in the closing months of the Paradise Garage. He also played at a long list of what is known as some of best clubs and nights in NYC in The Choice, House Nation, The Palladium, Wild Pitch and abroad..as opening DJ at Club Yellow in Japan, Moist and MOS in London in its opening weeks. 

This mix is from a weekly radio show Victor was doing for Pre Party Radio 2011 but could be a bit earlier. when he was living in his original home of New York City. Victor going through the classics and playing in his own unique way...happy Xmas and all the best for 2025.
