Roll up, Ladies and Gents, because Diesel Recordings release no.314 is here and its a particularly sinful offering! 7 is a compilation of some of Diesel's resident talent here to flex their beats and basslines for your listening pleasure! First up; Alt-A steps up with 'Pride'; a solid, uplifting breakbeat number with tight drums, arpeggiated synth lines and a smooth vocal. Next is Lo Definition with a dark slammer called 'Greed'. A deep, gritty chunker with classic breaks cuts, wobs and low end filth! Jim Reaper is to follow with his offering titled 'Envy'; a lush, intricately-crafted piece chocked full of live guitar riffs, pads, atmospheric vocals and groove. Electrom then slaps us with 'Lust'; a deeper groove with solid drums,  reese lines, harmonic overtones and squealing leads. Then follows the dynamic duo that is Journeyman & BARRcode with their squelchy-acid tech slammer called 'Wrath'. This one is a heads-down, driven, acid-tech-breaks slammer that will leave you cowering in the basement corner! Next up is Prato and his elastic-breaks tune 'Gluttony'. Prato's signature arp magic shines through along with some snappy drums and rather cheeky vocal cuts! And last, but by no means least, is Perpetual Present and 'Sloth'; a slamming, tech-breaks number with all the usual soundscapes, dark vibes and driving grooves that only Mr Present could provide. BBC Radio 1 Friction Guest Mix (September 2012)

The Freestylers have just finished their fifth studio album due for release in June and with new single and title track of the album 'The Coming Storm' out on April 15th,  the boys have decided to give away a very special free track to whet the appetite. 

'Calling Me Home' is a hauntingly melodic tune which sets the tone for their new album perfectly.  Featuring vocals from D.V. and that trademark thundering bass the Freestylers do so well. This one is BIG.

Freestylers present new single “The Coming Storm” on Rub A Duck 

The Freestylers haven’t slowed down since their first releases on the Rub A Duck imprint. Their singles “Frozen”, recorded with Joshua Steele a.k.a. Flux Pavillion and “Over You”, which featured Ami Carmine, all reaped high acclaim and now the original dons of breakbeat are back with a vengeance and about to release the first single “The Coming Storm” from their forthcoming album about to drop this summer.  

After a 15-year career the Freestylers have covered a full 360 degrees in the bass music genre, having played all the biggest festivals and most talked about nightclubs around the world, even the quintessentially British music show, Top of The Pops. With their first four artist albums "We Rock Hard", "Pressure Point", “Raw as F**k” and “Adventures in Freestyle” notched tightly to their belt, the duo was voted Best Band by Music Magazine, toured with Lenny Kravitz on his American Woman tour, rocked a crowd of 30,000 at Glastonbury Festival 1999, performed at MTV’s Times Square Millenium Party and played Big Day Out 2005 - it is clear that these guys have had one big adventure so far.

Through early tracks like “B-Boy Stance”, “Ruffneck” and “Warning”, their music progressed to seminal tunes like “Punks”, “Boom Blast”, “Fasten Your Seat-Belts”, “Painkiller” and more recently “Cracks”. In addition to their status as underground heroes, they have gained commercial success with their huge global hit “Push Up” and have had their music featured in TV and film, including the hugely successful comedy film Zoolander. 

And now, after two years in the studio, it’s fair to say Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey are about to launch a veritable assault on the music scene with the single release of their new album’s title track “The Coming Storm”. "The Coming Storm" takes the fusion of dub and jungle to another level with its warrior charged sensibility. Being a collaboration with Stereo:Type and featuring the moody and melodic vocals of Takura (of Flashing Lights/Chase and Status fame) the track has all the hallmarks of a classic Freestylers sound, but ramped up for the new era, including massive remixes by Ed Solo and Sound Avtar. It has already received support from El Hornet, Bassnectar, Eddy Temple Morris, Mista Jam and Flux Pavillion. Prepare yourself for the coming storm!

Recent signing Metrik crashes onto the Hospital release schedule with this immense self-titled EP. Hot on the heels of his Essential Mix for BBC Radio One, Metrik has forged a reputation for producing top-notch peak time tunes with catchy hooks and uplifting vibes a-plenty.

Kicking off with "Break Of Dawn", Metrik takes no prisoners as the tune drops with vocals from Dynamite MC into a cacophony of souped up synth work with plenty of fun factor. This is an explosive dancefloor banger that is guaranteed to cause a ruckus. Next is "Out Of The Fire" with its undulating melodies and euphoric, rippling synths, which will have hands in the air across the world.

The Freestylers: 28 Years of Bass, Beats & Global Anthems

With a career spanning nearly three decades, the Freestylers—Aston Harvey and Matt Cantor—have made their mark on the electronic dance music scene. From playing the world’s biggest festivals and clubs to appearing on Top of the Pops, they’ve remained at the forefront of the genre without ever standing still.

Origins & Breakthrough

Aston Harvey began as an engineer and producer, working with Rebel MC / Congo Natty and co-producing the jungle classic Spiritual Aura with DJ Rap. Matt Cantor, meanwhile, was part of Strike, co-producing the dance hit U Sure Do. The two met at Fresh Records, bonding over their love of hip-hop, electro, and breakbeats, leading to the birth of the Freestylers.

Their debut album brought them international success, with hits like B-Boy Stance and Ruffneck landing in the UK, Dutch, and German Top 20. A major US record deal followed, leading to a spot on Lenny Kravitz’s American Woman tour and a legendary Glastonbury 1999 performance.

Global Hits & Reinvention

Over the years, they’ve released a string of anthems, from Push Up, a #1 hit in Australia, Holland, and Belgium, to Cracks, which became a dubstep classic with 80+ million streams. They’ve also collaborated with Pendulum and held festival residencies worldwide.

In 2025, they’re set to release their seventh studio album, Enter the Sound—a collaboration with Dub Pistols featuring reggae legends like General Levy and Tippa Irie. With a packed schedule of festivals, remixes, and new music, the Freestylers are still going strong. In the words of LL Cool J: “Don’t call it a comeback—they’ve been here for years!”
