Initiation: Monomyth Part 2

The hero's journey continues. Having left behind your mundane reality in Monomyth: Separation. ‘Initiation’ will take you deep into the unknown, the underworld, the intangible. 

Part 2 of the Monomyth trilogy will take you on a road of trials. This is a favorite phase of the myth- adventure. 

Frenic has created a concept album in the Trip Hop tradition taking influence from a wide selection of source material that includes Hip Hop, Dub, Soul, Funk and Folk. This has all been crafted together using deep beats, scratches, huge dark reverbs and saturated lo fi sounds. 

Based on the book “A Hero with a Thousand Faces”. By Joseph Campbell the trilogy seeks to engage with the concept that all stories have one common theme and by understanding this your own hero's journey can be enlightened. 

“Whether we listen with aloof amusement to the dreamlike mumbo jumbo of some red-eyed witch doctor of the Congo, or read with cultivated rapture thin translations from the sonnets of the mystic Lao-tse; now and again crack the hard nutshell of an argument of Aquinas, or catch suddenly the shining meaning of a bizarre Eskimo fairy tale: it will be always the one, shape-shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find, together with a challengingly persistent suggestion of more remaining to be experienced than will ever be known or told.”(Joseph Campbell)

Alexandre Sumi embarks on a new adventure with the band Los Hermanos del Alma. This project originated in Cuba in 2019, where he and his brother had the opportunity to forge deep bonds intertwining music and friendship. The result of this experience is both explosive and surprising.

This debut album of this new journey, titled "Oya," offers a fusion of Afro-Cuban rock, a true musical UFO with diverse influences such as Afro-beat, rock fusion, Latin jazz, and Afro-Cuban soul vocal elements.

For the creation of this album, the band surrounded themselves with a tribe of musicians, immersing themselves fully in Havana.

Anna Domino joins Kenneth Bager & Findlay Brown on luminous art pop single

The cult pop singer conjures a spectral drama from the track’s halcyon production, wreathing the warm pads and joyful strings in the cosmic myth of Eurydice and Orpheus.
 
‘Don’t Look Back (Eurydice)’ will feature on Bager’s collaborative album with singer-songwriter Findlay Brown, set to come out in 2025. Brown’s vocals feature on the track as well, merging with the gauzy threads of Domino’s voice.
 
The collaboration has its own musical wellspring. Domino’s synth pop of the 80’s is a particularly revered item in the Balearic canon, which Bager – the veteran dj, producer and compiler – has played his part in assembling.
 
Anna Domino says about the song:
 
“When I heard the music Kenneth sent me, it suggested the feeling of a really good high.
 
What the lyrics describe is the seductive dream that a drug can provide - the genuine joy at being in a beautiful place that just happens to be hell. The question becomes - how do you find your way back home from such a nightmare.
 
So it is a story about Eurydice and her decision to leave the underworld. She speaks to Orpheus of her fascination and fear of the place as she leads him through it.
 
When I was a child, I saw the movie Black Orpheus and it broke my small heart. The power of that film has never left me.”
