Tilin is a Yakut word meaning 'to revive/recovery/resurrection'. This song came after frequent appearances in my Instagram of the band OTYKEN (https://www.youtube.com/@OTYKEN/about). I also have a friend who is from Siberia. I learned from him that the band is quite well known in Russia (and beyond). My friend is Yakut, while OTYKEN is a different Siberian background. The conversation and the band inspired me to write this song. OTYKEN is definitely an influence, though this song is very different from what they do. It is both my interpretation of that Siberian influence and also a song about recovery. It's about the seasons, the cycle of the planet and about a wish for revival and healing of the planet. Frenic has created a concept album in the Trip Hop tradition taking influence from a wide selection of source material that includes Hip Hop, Dub, Soul, Funk and Folk. This has all been crafted together using deep beats, scratches, huge dark reverbs and saturated lo fi sounds. 

Based on the book “A Hero with a Thousand Faces”. By Joseph Campbell the trilogy seeks to engage with the concept that all stories have one common theme and by understanding this your own hero's journey can be enlightened. 

“Whether we listen with aloof amusement to the dreamlike mumbo jumbo of some red-eyed witch doctor of the Congo, or read with cultivated rapture thin translations from the sonnets of the mystic Lao-tse; now and again crack the hard nutshell of an argument of Aquinas, or catch suddenly the shining meaning of a bizarre Eskimo fairy tale: it will be always the one, shape-shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find, together with a challengingly persistent suggestion of more remaining to be experienced than will ever be known or told.”(Joseph Campbell)

Inspired by 'the Outlaw Ocean' a book by Ian Urbina

While reporting at sea, journalist Ian Urbina, of the New York Times, built an audio library of field recordings featuring a variety of textured and often rhythmic sounds, from machine-gun fire on the coast of Somalia to chanting from captive deckhands on the South China Sea. Inspired by the reporting, artists from around the world created EPs sampling sound clips from Urbina’s archive, integrating them into their respective genre. Each EP artwork uses photography Urbina’s team captured at sea, beautifully illustrating the reporting.
