Welcome to episode 22 of Fresh & Local Radio! We worked out our levels this week, so we're sounding a lot more clear now. Thanks to those that chimed in last week. Our topics of the week covered authenticity in Hip-Hop (is it still an essential ingredient to lyrics?), mentorship in Hip-Hop and do we still see a sense of it among the older artists, and the longevity of our current artists. [LIKE & RE-POST] Fresh & Local is comprised of J.Nolan, G-Lo the Lion, JusThoughtZ, and Rex Novi (engineer/instrumentalist). "Tear Drops" is the debut single from the group dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, spiritual unrest, and the fine lines between creativity and commerce. Many of us experience these things, but in order to save face in the public, we choose to hold in our insecurities and personal issues. In this song, the group simply asks, "Why don't you let your tears drop?" They do just that in a venting session, produced by Kuddie Fresh.

After taking a lengthy hiatus which led to music placements on VH1 & MTV programming, the lyricist returns with this heartfelt offering dedicated to those going through turbulent times. Listeners may have noticed that J.Nolan hasn't released any new music since August, but will be happy to know that a brand new LP is in the works! New EP, Spring 2016. 
Gearing up for his next official release, J.Nolan explores the concept of love in its purest form with this brand new single, "What's Love?" He makes the clear declaration that "love is spending time with your fam/ when somebody's in need, you provide what you can" and challenges his listeners to hone in on these basic elements. The record also sets the precedent for Christians to share the love of God with those that may not be on the same spiritual journey, just yet. It all comes back to love!

J.Nolan has been hard at work on his forthcoming LP, Rise of ATLantis throughout the summer of 2016 and is finally ready to present his new sound, which he calls "Progressive Hip-Hop." The single "Nobody Knows" introduces a more bass driven, bouncy approach that hasn't been heard on previous releases - but the lyrical content and depth of the music is still very much alive. 

"Nobody Knows" features Nolan & JusThoughtZ sharing their own perspectives on the sensitive subject of Inadequacy. Many people get so caught up in image, material wealth, and trying to keep up with the latest everything to the point that they lose sight of their own self-worth in the process. Some are tempted to 'do wrong when things don't seem to go right' and others find solace in overcompensating their shortcomings with false pride. These emotions run deep and can ultimately lead to even more than self-destruction if they go unchecked...

"Destiny" is the intro to the Above The Fray EP, detailing how Nolan was first introduced to writing music back in 4th grade and allowed his dedication to prevail throughout all the hardships he's faced since that time period. Jae Franklin provides beautiful vocals throughout the record and delivers an inspiring chorus telling us all to follow what's in our hearts. Hopefully this record strikes a chord in everyone going through their daily crusade to chase their dreams and find purpose within the struggle.
