As a DJ and promoter Wilhite has been holding it down for over twenty years. His 'Vibes New & Rare music' record store has been a main source for soulful electronic music in Detroit until its closure a few years ago.

The 'Vibes New & Rare music' compilation only features material that Rick Wilhite truly believes to represent the artists. After releasing Volume 1 in 2010, Wilhite now delivers the sequel, featuring pioneers and new talents alike from New York, Chicago and Detroit.

Detroit Swindle – AKA – Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets are back with their first new material in a year and it’s great!

The two have been making waves, particularly in the UK over the past month and it’s excellent to have them back in full swing. From bringing their own ‘Great Escape’ party to Leeds to performing an endearing set at Fabric on Valentines day, it seems like almost the perfect time to bring you an exclusive first listen to the pairs brand new ‘The Punch Drunk EP’

The extended play leads off with ‘Allright (We’ll Be)’ a feel-good slice of future-retro discoid filter vocal house. The Dutch duo have nothing to do with Detroit – or techno – but have crafted a track that plays like a classic Nervous or Strictly Rhythm soundtrack.

Second track ‘Pursuit’ is more of chuggy, deeper track enthusing smooth, melodic synth pads, deep, groovy low-end sounds and easy-listening piano chords.

The EP is set for release through the duo’s own label Heist Recordings on the 23rd February and will be available through all major music distribution sites.  

PREMIERE: Detroit Swindle - Pursuit

“Fish” is a chill, meditative track blending IDM, electronica, and experimental beats with post-R&B textures. Built from original samples and reworked fragments of past material, it creates a reflective, immersive soundscape that invites listeners to slow down and get lost in subtle rhythms and atmospheric layers. Perfect for headphones, study sessions, introspective moments, or late-night listening.

Created at a time of personal growth, toward the end of the pandemic and the end of a significant relationship. “Fish” channels the tension of moving through discomfort while finding rhythm and flow. Its sparse, textural production highlights space, breathing room, and the interplay between glitchy percussion and ethereal synths.

Following recent Music Man albums from Petar Dundov ‘Ideas From The Pond’ and Marcel Dettmann’s ‘Conducted’ mix we now welcome one of Detroit’s finest, Robert Hood.

With ‘Motor: Nighttime World 3’ Robert Hood returns to the project he first started on Austria’s Cheap label back in 1995 and subsequently continued in 2000 on M-Plant. Fusing his trademark minimal techno into jazz inspired moods and inflections, Hood emerges from the smoke-lit shadows of a downbeat, but not beaten, Motor City metropolis. Inspired by Julien Temple’s documentary ‘Requiem For Detroit?’ Robert Hood examines the life, history and future of Detroit’s motor industry and its workforce, set against a backdrop of decay, despair, hope and re-birth.

As a first taster of the album we now present to you ‘Torque One’ (taken from the album) and an exclusive &amp; vinyl-only track to this 12”, called ‘Movement’. With this release, mister Hood delivers 2 timeless pieces of electronic music inspired by a jazzy, dreamy ‘Nighttime World’. Quality.
