Buying a home for the first time is a massive step in many young people's lives, but how exactly do you know when the time's right to do it?

Many of us are either still living at home or renting, with owning a home usually a distant pipe dream. While there's currently some limited assistance from the state government, the federal government's pledged to help make it easier to pay the deposit on your first home. First Home Match Maker helps out people looking to buy their first place, particularly on the finance side of things.

To discuss the issue further, Wavelength sat down with Steve from First Home Match Maker, and Simon, a finance and wealth consultant from Crown Money, to investigate the process of buying your first home. Fresh's very own Brekky co-host Thommo also popped by to talk about his journey as a first home buyer.

With the popular documentary movie Catfish and its related TV show just about everywhere these days, no doubt you'll know a thing or two about catfishing, but how can you tell if you're a victim of the practice?

If you're not in the know, catfishing involves someone who creates a fake online persona, usually to lure another person into a relationship, to scam them or it can even simply be for trolling. No doubt it can be a pretty horrible time for the victim. In Australia, millions of dollars have been lost in dating and romance scams alone. So how do you tell if you're being catfished? What should you be looking out for?

Wavelength spoke to Marcus and Adrian, both of them victims of catfishing and related identity theft, about their experiences and what to look out for.

In recent years there's been a lot of discussion about workers' rights and exploitation of workers. So is your workplace actually doing right by you?

Whether it's underpayment, some tricky accounting or even interference in your life outside of work, there are some employers who aren't operating in the right way. Wage theft particularly is a huge issue, with recent research indicating that underpaying wages means South Aussies are losing around $500 million a year. It's also important to be aware of your rights and ensure you're being paid correctly, whether that's as a casual, part-time or full-time worker. So are you concerned your workplace is violating your rights? What do you need to look out for? What can be done if you are being mistreated?

Wavelength spoke to Josh Peak from the SDA Union and Kate, a hospitality worker who's experienced issues over wage disputes, about the issue.

In the lead up to the State Budget next month, the Government has announced a raft of fee increases in many areas, one of which is liquor licensing.

Since Treasurer Rob Lucas announced last week the changes to a number of fees around SA, a number of buisness owners have begun speaking out about the effect it may have on them. Bank Street Social for example says its annual liquor licensing fees could jump from around $1000 to $6000. Given that the fee increases may depend on things like opening hours, it could mean many pubs and bars could pass the extra cost onto customers, or even close much earlier than usual. Another plan would see a user-pay scheme for police presence at events. 

So what effects could these changes have? Can anything be done to reduce the impact? Are these changes beneficial for SA? Wavelength spoke to Labor MP Stephen Mullighan about the issue. Attorney General Vickie Chapman also provided us with a statement which you can find on the Fresh 92.7 website.
