Alguns anos depois, Elis Regina resgatou a letra proibida e gravou a canção com um novo nome, Caxangá.''

''The original song: ''Os Escravos de Jó'' (Caxangá, Composition: Fernando Brant / Milton Nascimento) is part of the album 'Milagre dos Peixes', mutilated by dictators, who practically cut out the lyrics of this song and two more. Since Milton Nascimento couldn't use the lyrics, he decided to make the recordings only with his voice, using his vast repertoire of modulations to impress the emotions that the censors had suppressed from the texts. Of the three forbidden letters, this one, by Fernando Brant, is undoubtedly the most forceful. Clementina de Jesus, invited to participate in the album, was only able to sing the last verse. A few years later, Elis Regina rescued the forbidden lyrics and recorded the song under a new name, Caxangá. ''

A little back story on this one, for those of you that may be interested. I'd wanted to do an edit of this wonderful track for ages but couldn't figure out how to approach it when along came Mark E with "Scared", an edit which solved the issue of how to deal with the two separate parts of the track beautifully - extend the intro, tease it out and simply drop into the main part of the original, leaving it as is. Brilliant! The only snag for me was that "Scared" wasn't in the style that I was looking for personally. So, I proceeded to copy Mark E's blueprint using a different groove. I filtered the intro and beat, jammed along on keys over the top, working it to the max, before dropping back into the original at the drop. I've had a lot of fun playing this one out over the years, it works equally well in house clubs and soul all-nighters alike. I've left the edit as is,  the way I first recorded it, nice and loose (nothing to do with locating 9+ year old files  on hard drives ;)). I hope you all enjoy it and play it out often and loud!

After many happy years of playing this amazing, raw gospel number out as a personal dj "weapon" I thought it was time to share my edit with you all so I've given it a brand new makeover, road-tested it and I think you're gonna love this! 

I have many fond memories of seeing people dancing and losing it to this way back when, early 2000s at La Via Lactea. Nobody knew what this stuff was back then (gospel disco/funk?!) but nobody cared either, people just came to dance. It's gratifying when you get your own homegrown scene, lots of records from those days seems to be coming into their own now, which is great, but what was cool then was that nobody cared -  about what anyone else was doing elsewhere, just enjoying our own thing in complete freedom. Good times!

It's by The Samples, performing a cappella outdoors with a brass band and segueing from Risin' To The Top into All Night Long. What a great vibe!! 

Well, I was just heading off to a party and I thought: that'd be a great one to play, lemme just add a little something to it. And, of course, as these things go, one thing led to another. And another...

Seeing how this was recorded, the quality is what it is, so enjoy it for what it is. Actually, if you think about it, it's two edits for the price of one. patrícia polayne is not only an amazing singer-songwriter and one of the most important artists from my state - Sergipe, in the northeast of Brazil - but she is also my sister. since i was a kid i knew she would be an amazing artist and i'm proud to be her first fan. and because i'm a fan, i'm always a little scared of using one of her songs and desecrate her incredible music, but i'm also not known for having much sense, so here it is. this is a live-edit made with the vocals and some drums of her unfinished song "a roda" in which i added some effects, percussions, beats and samples from miret and venga venga, spaniol, nana vasconcelos, francis etto and mrux.
