Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Thursday morning (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which will be invisible to everyone. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks that have been previously submitted and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Both a fan and band favourite, ‘sometimes I cry at work’ was a surprise sleeper hit from the new EP on streaming platforms. Landing cheerbleederz a cover shot on Spotify’s Hot New Bands playlist and a spot on The Rock List, plus key radio support from John Kennedy (Radio X) and Tom Robinson (BBC 6music), the new record clearly resonated on an even broader scale with listeners.

The track is accompanied by a super-fun, emotional rollercoaster of a video, which was filmed and directed by the band in self-isolation, and was edited by drummer Phoebe Cross and long-time collaborator Rich Mandell.

Charlotte May, an up and coming independent artist is increasingly becoming known for her bold and theatrical flair within Pop / Alternative music. Charlotte May believes that vulnerability and authenticity in a world that is striving to seem perfect, is not only empowering, but essential. Her new release ‘Rage’ is a further call to courage, a challenge to honestly and safely embrace the chaos within, instead of locking it away. 

“This track for me is pure liberation. It was about saying all the things I felt I ‘shouldn’t’ say. I’ve put on a fake smile and masked how I’ve felt more times than I can count. Now I’m taking the mask off. I feel as if the emotion of anger gets a bad rap, when in fact it is an indicator that tells us when something is seriously not right or that injustice is taking place. And yet, especially as a women, I’ve felt the social pressure to completely repress it. Anger itself is not wrong or destructive, it is how we respond to it that can be damaging. For me this song was about exploring how we can healthily embrace and express even the most challenging of emotions.”

Inspired by the sounds of Kate Bush and Lana Del Rey, Charlotte May’s work combines catchy pop melodies with hints towards a cinematic and electronic style. With empowering lyrics, haunting vocals and a fierce dramatic style; Charlotte May’s unique flair creates an alternative soundscape that is sure to take the listener on a musical journey.
