Chabliz-song about WW1 (The Great War), composed by Gerrit Vennema and Chabliz. This week in February 2023 it's been a year since the war in Ukraine started. These cruel battlefields remind us of the battlefields during WW1, where many soldiers lost their lives. Chabliz-singer Petra de Winter went to the WW1-battlefields in Belgium and France and read several books about the subject. Chabliz-drummer Ap de Ree has a special interest in the historic military aspects of WW1. They were very impressed about what they saw on their trips to the battlefields and spoke about it with composer Gerrit Vennema, who got inspired. Gerrit read some books about the subject and composed this song, together with the bandmembers. Chabliz arranged it and strangely they managed to catch the atmosphere of the big war graveyards in Belgium and France. This song is a tribute to all fallen soldiers, from all nationalities, here and now and in WW1.  John McCrae wrote the words in May 1915. He was one of the warpoets, one of the soldiers who fought in this war.
This song is remastered and is a part of the Chabliz-album 'Straight Stories.'
This WW1-song is especially a good "soundtrackish" song to accompany a movie or documentary about WW1. It's also a good song to listen to in a moment of rembembrance.

Morning Sunshine

Dedicated to the 70s Health an Safety culture; or lack thereof. Those of us of a certain age should actualy be grateful for health & safety. The 70s for children - and adults - was a minefield, particularly in rural communities like the ones I lived in.... For many of us, our H&S advisor was a cartoon cat called Charley..... 
This ties in nicely with 70s children's TV, which featured lots of acoustic guitars, and was a constant source of joy and inspiration.

Coyote Revisited is an homage to the classic Joni track from her 1976 album 'Hejira'. Featuring Gemma Kirk (Lost Chimes/Hunt Us)on vocals, it depicts the highs and lows of a relationship with an interesting character, which Joni had whilst on the road, travelling across the U.S.
Guy Jackson's approach for this album was to purposefully exclude guitars in order to create a different soundscape. The lead track features Julia Fordham on vocals.

Gaining support from the likes of Radio X, BBC Introducing, Apple Music, BT Sport and XS Radio Manchester with early offerings, 20-year-old singer-songwriter Harvey Jay Dodgson unveils his lively new single ‘Marilyn Rose’, releasing this Feb 17th

Driven by a punchy drum groove, a looping Guitar and later met by a hypnotic guitar melody, ‘Marilyn Rose’ is truly infectious. Dodgson brings an effortlessly smooth vocal performance with his signature rasp adding heaps of attitude and character to this fiery release.


Speaking on the track, Harvey explains; “Escapism is the distraction.  Music is the escape.  Marilyn Rose is the fantasy which binds them together.  Personified as a woman of the imagination, Marilyn Rose encompasses the paths of evasion as distorted guitars, floating melodies and gospel backing vocals take you with her on a journey from writers block to a final piece.  Seek distraction, find relief.  Always on her toes, ready to explore, exploiting the art of storytelling in search of any inspiration ... or maybe just to create a spark in an everyday life ...  

Marilyn Rose was a song I wrote because I was lost on what to write.  A lack of inspiration and ideas?  Write a song about someone who goes and finds inspiration and ideas for you.  Produced with Michael Smith at RYP Recordings, the goal was to portray a music journey by setting a dreamy ambience, driving it with guitars, but leaving a sinister undertone emerging from beneath.  

Releasing alongside a stunning music video, ‘Marilyn Rose ’ builds from his 1st single from his forthcoming EP ‘Tell Me’ and his debut EP ‘Oxygen’ which contained a string of highly successful singles supported by industry tastemakers, as he again cements himself as an incredibly exciting young talent.
Working on his previous EP ‘Oxygen’ with Michael Smith (Wolf Alice, Anteros) at RYP Studios, Dodgson was named BT TV and Scotts Menswear as ‘One to Watch 2021’, as well as receiving a glowing review from Clash Magazine with single ‘Caroline’ chosen as their ‘Track of The Day’.

2022 has seen Harvey play The Great Escape Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, High Tide Festival, 110 Above Festival and Victorious Festival with Harvey’s appearances in the live scene set to get bigger and bigger following backing from Alex Hardee (Liam Gallagher, Sia, Clean Bandit) of Wasserman booking agency.

More recently, Harvey’s single ‘Caroline’ was sync’ed to the 7th most watched Netflix film ‘Purple Hearts’, as well as sync’ed to the UK’s favourite dating show Love Island. 

Background 

Hailing from Portsmouth, Harvey Jay Dodgson started playing the guitar at the age of 7 and by 9 years of age had written his first piece of music. His early inspiration came after being introduced by older brother Neil to the music of Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday and the free- flowing vocal melodies of Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles. 

He says, "It instantly opened my eyes (or should I say ‘ears’) to a completely different sound of music." It was discovering the jazz-influenced artists, King Krule and Cosmo Pyke who inspired him to experiment further and he was soon ready to create his own music.

An undeniably growing name in the female pop world; Emilia Tarrant’s 2022 saw support from BBC Radio 1’s ‘Future Pop’, a performance at the UK’s most iconic festival Glastonbury and a plethora of sync’s across some of the nation’s most popular TV shows. Opening up a new chapter this year, Emilia share’s the final instalment to her forthcoming EP, with single ‘Best Friend Heartbreak’, out February 3rd.

Emilia’s radiant pop trademark has seen her work with some of the biggest industry names, including Grammy-nominated producer, Will Hicks, known for his work with Ed Sheeran, Lewis Gardiner (Ellie Goulding) and Kingdoms (JPCooper, R3hab), piecing together what will be her second EP.

Working with another distinguished producer Charlie Thomas (Little Mix, London Grammar, One Direction) on ‘Best Friend Heartbreak’, Emilia strips back her signature buoyancy and invites each listener to indulge in her celestial vocals and ingest her narrative of a friendship break-up.

In her own words Emilia explains;
“This is probably the rawest song for me that I’ve released to date. I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty sad…! It’s a story I’ve been trying to write about and get off my chest for a couple years now, and then ‘Best Friend Heartbreak’ came along. It’s not often you hear songs about friend breakups, but as such a relatable subject, there should definitely be more. It perfectly captures the pain I felt after losing a friendship and how much I miss them still! It turned into a letter to myself too; as someone who hates giving up on anything, especially people, the lyric “Em just give up” is a phrase that I tend to want to scream at myself over and over again. Anyway, these lyrics, the emotion, and the production too, feel very ‘me’, and I’m so proud of what Charlie, Joe and I created.”
