Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

"Solvitur Ambulando (Spring version)" is a new piano based single from Matt Mereport (out now !). The piece is named after the Latin phrase “Solvitur Ambulando”, meaning "it is solved by walking". 

It was influenced by the mental relief a walk (urban, countryside or otherwise) can create in these hectic, stressful and anxious times we’re in. 

The piece was released to coincide with this year’s Piano Day (29th March) organised by Nils Frahm. "Solvitur Ambulando (Spring version)" is included on the official Piano Day Spotify playlist, curated by Nils. It’s also available on the usual streaming and download sites.

I wrote Sober about the conflicting emotions you experience when your relationship with someone is based on no attachment and no expectations. It's about the constant push and pull, where every word and action can have a double meaning. Lyrically the song is about how, when you’re feeling lost, you attach your worth to their interest in you and do whatever you cannot to lose it. Sometimes despite all the warning signs that are there, it's hard to resist the sense of self-protection and direction that comes from placing your sense of self in someone else’s interest in you: you know you need to let go but just don’t have the strength to. Ultimately, I like to think Sober is a very relatable song that captures the emotional conflict we experience when we find ourselves in a relationship with a inevitable expiration date.”

"Y Wennol" (The Swallow). The swallow migrates south to Africa. Will it return? [a reference to biodiversity loss and climate change]. Along the way, the swallow passes people migrating Northward, leaving home and risking everthing on the waves [of the mediterranean] in search of a better life. 
Siôn wrote these lyrics on the 27th of December, 2022, after a brainstorming session. We composed the music there and then, recorded a demo over the coming days, added Lewis Williamson on fiddle (via fibre-optic internet cables from Scotland), and sumitted it to Cân i Gymru (Wales's annual Welsh-language song contest)15mins before the deadline. We were selected for the final, and we performed this song live on S4C on the 3rd of March, 2023!
