Garden Gnome is the debut single from DALAM and the opening track on HEADLINES. In many ways, it sets the tone for what the band is all about. Sometimes brash, sometimes frantic, and always sardonic.

Garden Gnome is a fairytale set in the country of Malta, where the fictional government does an oopsie daisy and replaces all the island's trees with roads and apartments. They try and cover it up with a €700 million Green Spaces project which aims to transform Malta's roundabouts and car tunnels.

Determined to populate Malta with beautiful flora and fauna, they hire an ecological expert—a garden gnome—to lead the project. Little do they know there's something in it for the gnomes...

With their new single, ‘Too Few’, Batsch have delivered another perfect example of the skewed, infectious, dreamy alt-pop they are known for. It is the first new material that Mason Le Long and Matt Rheeston have produced since the band became a duo and marks a departure in their approach to composition. Over Rheeston’s bebop-flavoured drum loop and a haunting synth refrain, Le Long’s deadpan vocal calmly depicts a protagonist losing all perspective on their own welfare, sitting right on the knife’s edge between mania and joy. In Le Long’s own words, “I was struggling with some personal issues last autumn, though clearly in denial, so I was just trying to laugh it off. The lyrics were supposed to be poking fun at my own state of mind, but it was only on reflection, listening back a few weeks later, that I actually came to terms with what I was experiencing, and how it’s reflected in the song.”

Overall, "Fate" is a captivating song that encapsulates the artist's personal journey, their struggles, their aspirations, and their determination to defy the odds and become an acclaimed anti-hero in their own right. It is a testament to their resilience, self-reflection, and unwavering belief in their own potential.

Lazy Hunter are back on 23rd June 2023 with their new single Ritual. The song and its accompanying artwork were chosen by fans on the band's social media channels.

In contrast to their usual off-kilter style, Ritual is a straight up indie rock banger. Ever the experimentalists, the song started with salvaged drum tracks from an early recording the brothers made together in 2014. Revisiting it almost a decade later gave a new perspective and breathed new life into the song. Frontman Chris Gibson shares his thoughts:

"Ritual is one of those songs that sounds like a love song but isn't… It's actually about the concept of success. We are all conditioned to continuously strive for more money, more possessions, better jobs, accolades - as if, once we achieve it, we will finally find happiness. But it's a mirage: once one goal is reached, it dissipates, another appearing in its wake. Work, eat, sleep, repeat. So I guess the song is about my own personal relationship with the idea of success.”

Lazy Hunter continue to work on their album, intentionally taking their time. In a world of instant gratification, their aim is to allow as much time as needed for the body of work to come together organically.

The final track of The Deefons album Sunset recorded summer 1999.  To add to the issues that plagued the recording of the album our current keyboard player and co-writer of this song Hugh Dawg was MIA.  No one knew where he was or how to get hold of him.  This song was written around a keyboard part that sounded like circus music. With this key element missing we were faced with the decision to record without it or just not record the song at all.  

We decided to record the song anyway.  Like the closing track of Clippings I improvised the lyrics.  Ryan’s parents were reclaiming the basement and recording time was over.  Ryan had handed me the mic and said “This is it. Whatever comes out of your mouth now IS the track, no retakes”.  I aimed to sing the most nonesensical and senslessly offensive thing i could.  The track was laid down as you hear it here and we all had laugh.     

I moved away to North Bay and Ben moved to Ottawa, YeTI would move to Toronto.  Aside from playing a set at friend’s party and some acoustic jams in my basement in North Bay over the next couple years The Deefons, despite best our best intentions, would never record or perform again.

We made a genuine effort to write and rehearse for a third album but with life pulling us further apart it got harder and harder to get together.  With my childhood band broken, my increasing social isolation, and responsibilities of parenthood I quit writing and playing music for several years.
