This season tends to be emotionally heavy for me. Even when good things are happening, there’s that quiet, strange feeling like something’s off but you can’t quite name it. You want to open up, but the words never land quite right. You feel misunderstood, not just by others, but by yourself. And sometimes, you just need a break from people needing you because you need you.

That’s what this playlist has been for me. A space to feel, to process, to breathe.

I’ve been making these for over 15 years. Each one marks a chapter. Where I was, how I felt. Music has always been my way through.

I don't know if you've seen that one show, Arcane (an absolute must-watch btw) but I was inspired by the idea of having a responsibility to protect your other, multiverse self. This one has nothing to do with the multiverse, but it is inspired by stories and versions of ourselves we revisit time and time and time again, and the work we do to change or be better, or answer the never-ending what ifs. So what if you only lived like every version of you mattered? What if you lived knowing all outcomes would happen? Who would you be? Who would you care for? Idk either, but it's nice to think about while you're growing.

The Fresh Selects Remix Series continues with the first drop of our 2019 season – trombonist/composer Reginald Chapman's brass anthem "Hoodie," from his 2018 debut 'Prototype', re-imagined in two completely different ways by a pair of the most promising beatmakers at the moment. 

Both repping for the Mutant Academy crew – Connecticut's finest, Foisey., and Richmond, VA's own BSTFRND – each take Reggie's original vision in exciting new directions on their respective new flips of the Chapman original.
