Lane Beckstrom is a Chicago based musician who has been an in-demand bass player and a contributor to some of the city's biggest releases of the last 10 years – and now, he's stepping up to center stage as a solo artist for the first time. 

About as well-seasoned of a musician as one could be at his young age, Lane started out as a teenager in the cross-genre live band Kids These Days, with the likes of Vic Mensa and Nico Segal. From there he'd go to play and tour with The JuJu Exchange, Knox Fortune, and Resavoir (with Will Miller from the band Whitney). Beckstrom was also a contributing member of the Chance The Rapper-fronted group, Donnie Trump & The Social Experiment's 'Surf' album, which found him working with an all-star cast including BJ The Chicago Kid, Raury, and Eryn Allen Kane. 

Now debuting as a solo artist, as not only a multi-talented musician (playing guitar, synths, drums, and of course, bass), but also as a singer/songwriter – Lane’s debut single, “Parachute,” is fitting for this new leap of faith he’s making. Boldly carving out his own niche right from the jump, Beckstrom offers up a sunny, kaleidoscopic sound that gracefully floats between bedroom pop, indie rock and alternative R&B. 

Beckstrom is currently finishing up his debut LP for later this year, which was co-produced by Paul Cherry and recorded at his studio The Dungeon in Jefferson Park, Chicago. Stay tuned for more from the pair coming soon on Fresh Selects.

The second of ‘Three Singles’ from David Marston, Mirror Gazer & Dan Izco's new trio project has arrived – this time featuring guest vocals by legendary Reggae founding father and Dub Music inventor, the late great Lee "Scratch" Perry himself.

We are thankful to have had the honor of working with Mr. Perry during his lifetime, and we are grateful that he was able to give us his blessing for the song while he was still with us. Our thoughts and love go out to his family – may his soul rest in peace and his music live on forever.

This extended version of our latest Fresh Selects Remix Series drop, highlighting Telemakus's take on SOTJ's "I Want More" – now includes the bonus "Slowed-Soul Mix" heard here, plus the instrumentals for all three versions of the song.

When Tele initially remixed the song, he sped everything up so that he could get into his full high-energy Fusion bag, as he loves to do (and we love him for it!).  So, as a B-side bonus, we thought we'd include this alternate edit of his flip that kept the vocals at their original speed and calmed everything else in the track down along with it – traversing genres a bit and sliding back into more of a cool Soul groove.

The perpetual Fresh Selects Remix Series continues on with our seventh episode – this time in the form of Royce Wood Junior's most recent single getting a new redux from fellow Londoner multi-talent, Harve. 

Recently selected as a new personal favorite of Sir Elton John himself for his 'Rocket Hour' radio show on Apple Music 1, "You're So Fuckin' Perfect" is RWJ's jangling Funk rumination on the ever-foreboding A.I. tech and all that comes with it – now given an appropriately Electronic tilt by Harve, with glitches and robo-stutters abound, all underlined with a seismic bassline worthy of only the most proper soundsystems. 

Handpicked by Royce as the ideal remixer to do the honors – Harve has been making waves over the last few years with a string of singles starting in 2018 and two subsequent EP's since (2020's 'Held By The Moon' and their latest, 'In Time', released just last month). First introduced as a vocalist, Harve has recently started to delve further into the world of production – which this remix only solidifies the fact that they are one of the most exciting new artists in the craft.

"i really wanted to make an epic psych rock song with no drums, reminiscent of some of my influences from the late 60’s. something with lyrics that held wisdom & could serve as a mantra. a gentle reminder to open your eyes & really take in what’s going on rather than distracting ourselves into oblivion. (side note: i always picture mumbo jumbo from banjo kazooie when the “OO, AH” vocals come in at the end hahaha)
