Beyond a long time coming, one of our oldest friends in music since our earliest blog days – Sxlxmxn now officially breaks bread with us as a label for his first solo outing.

Those who have paying attention should already know of him by now, if not from theHOMETEAM single he produced for us a while back (https://soundcloud.com/freshselects/thehometeam-crash-dummies), then for his extensive work over the years with damn near everyone in the Portland rap scene (Milc, T.$poon, Illmac, Donte Thomas, Bocha, Cassow, Epp... you name 'em, he's got something with him), or for some of the high-profile collabs he's produced with Mick Jenkins, Westside Boogie, Guilty Simpson, Iamsu!, Jason Martin, and Ruck of Heltah Skeltah.

On this first single for Fresh Selects (of many more still to come), the perpetually-prolific Portland producer brings together two of the Midwest's best to the Pacific NW, with dueling verses from Boldy James (Detroit) & Vic Spencer (Chicago) – with Seattle's own Na'ki bridging it all together on the hook.

Sons Of The James is a new duo project from singer/songwriter Rob Milton and producer/musician DJ Harrison, inspired by a blend of classic Gospel music and early 2000's Soulquarians era R&B and Soul.

The B-side, featuring the legendary Georgia Anne Muldrow (the literal inventor of the phrase "stay woke" on the Erykah Badu song "Master Teacher"), was recently featured on season 4 of Issa Rae's hit show 'Insecure' on HBO. 

Rob Milton had this to say about the project's inception – "In 2015 I recorded the album of my dreams in Richmond, Virginia with DJ Harrison. Sad to say that the energy was similar at the time [as it is now]. I was coming home from BLM protests and writing songs about love to escape from the anger."

In support of Black Lives Matter, all label income from Bandcamp sales of this single will be matched by Fresh Selects and donated to various bail fund charities and organizations fighting to defund the police.
