Your third peek into the world of Reginald Chapman’s upcoming ‘Accretion’ album comes by way of a new flip on an old jazz standard, as Reg puts his signature touch on Duke Ellington’s “I Got It Bad (And That Ain’t Good).” Famously recorded by the likes of legendary singers such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, to game-changing instrumentalists like Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans and Ahmad Jamal – Chapman now adds on to the tradition, contributing his own new arragement to the song’s historic pantheon. 

Joining him for the occasion is an assembly of some of Richmond, Virginia’s finest — vocalist Kenneka Cook, and a backing band made up of 3/5th’s of ButcherBrown: DJ Harrison (pulling double duty here, holding down the drumkit and also providing a most choice Rhodes solo as well), Marcus “Tennishu” Tenney, and Andrew Randazzo.

"This song, like a lot of my pieces, first started out as a beat that I made in Garage Band on my iPad. 

I wrote it after going back on the road for the first time after meeting my now wife, to help finish up Rebecca Rego’s album (at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco). It’s a celebration of loving someone enough to miss them when they aren’t around. 

It’s become a staple of my live sets for a few years now. The take we used for the album comes from a show with the Illinois chapter of my Pressure Fit band – recorded live at The Iron Post jazz club in downtown Urbana.  For years, The Iron Post was the hub for Jazz music in that area, showcasing students and legendary locals alike for decades, until the owner's untimely passing in 2021 (RIP Paul).

When listening back to the live recording, my bass trumpet solo felt like it could use some embellishment for the album – so I reached out to the reed specialist himself, Morgan Price (of Antibalas, Ikebe Shakedown, and work with Beyoncé, J Cole, Czarface & MF DOOM, etc…) to help me out.  I hand-wrote the new parts out on score paper while on the road with Lucky Chops and Morgan knocked it out of the park for me at his home studio in Brooklyn."

Reginald Chapman "A Day Without You" (with Pressure Fit)

‘Moments’ is the first single off the upcoming LP ‘Palms’, the 5th studio album from London based instrumentalist and producer Andy Baxter. Featuring the harp, played by Rachel Horton, ‘Moments’ is an ode to early 60s jazz sounds with synth melody top line and double bass part sitting casually behind the beat. Influences come from the music of Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane.

‘Sabah Al Noor’ is the first solo single by Berlin-based vocalist and writer douniah. A follow-up to her 2019 album ‘Dream Baby’, douniah releases her debut solo EP ‘A Lot, Not Too Much’ in November, digitally and on LP. The EP will be accompanied by a short film, directed by Elena Cremona and Nils Hansen.

Agadir-born and Hamburg-raised, douniah engages in the practice of interpreting her spirit, impressively, in German, Darija, and English. Her distinct yet genre-fluid expression is well-honed, with the ability to execute various roles in the creative process with a number of collaborators – notably her omnipresence on the electronic Lost Papers EP with Yoofee, and single ‘Space for the kidd’ from Move78’s forthcoming album Grains. The interdisciplinary songstress warmly credits her sonic inspirations from hubs such as the pioneering Black communities across America, all the way to North Africa - where Gnaoua and Raï music gave something tangible to a young douniah listening to her mother's collection.

douniah has developed a reputation in the scene for sublime live performances. “I think that my audience knows me through my performances and continued to grow from there.” She has notably supported Children of Zeus and Sudan Archives across the German leg of their European and world tours respectively, and most recently enchantingly set the stage for Rochelle Jordan’s show at Kantine am Berghain Further, she has played at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg was one of the very few musicians on the bill at Documenta fifteen.
