They are Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and they need no introduction. When your old man writes D.I.S.C.O. there's only one way to go, and through a fire of screeching 303 acid lines, they found their way home with nowhere left to travel. If you've been living under a rock or self-isolating in a lead-cladded panic room, the Daft Punks have bid adieu to one another, and this is our tribute to their legacy; Pete Carvell cranking up the energy for a thunderous rollin' and scratchin' ode to the two French boys who lived inside robots. To those who lost themselves to dance, we salute you.

OK, I'll quit it with the jokes, before we head for a turtle disaster. A Girona boy with Mexican heritage, Daniel Hertz is a DJ and producer with a focus on techno, electro and house music, but still holding a deep connection to his early roots of disco, funk, dub and soundsystem culture. Kicking off with a reggae Bee Gees cover, reaching a climax of sweaty dancefloor disco, and connecting the dots on the way through all manner of sweet soulful sounds, Hertz's first contribution to Fresh Soup is as eclectic as one may expect given his myriad of influences.

Santander-born José Luis Ordax Martí — or more simply, Gato — has spent the last 20 years residing on another Spanish coastline, having showcased his passion for electronic music at diverse spaces across Barcelona and its surrounding area. For Fresh Soup 147, Gato brings with him a seriously mixed bag that takes us through classic electro, soulful house, disco, tech house and all manner of sounds between.

Simm discovered electronic music at the age of 11, back in 1991. From there he followed the rave scene through hardcore to jungle and drum and bass. At 16 he got his first pair of decks and started collecting vinyl. Throughout the years he’s been involved in various genres, but drum and bass is always the sound closest to his heart.

This first mix for Fresh Soup is a selection of some of his favourite releases from 1996, the year he began DJ'ing. Tech step through to Jump Up and some of the more deeper cuts, DJ Simm provides a short journey through that seminal year.

Fresh Soup celebrates 50 sessions in serious style, George Thompson delivering an exceedingly special two hours of sound. The co-founder of Feel, one of the UK's most successful club nights, George played alongside names such as John Digweed and Paul Oakenfold, as well as regularly guesting at Cream and Gatecrasher; also having propped up the ones and twos at Ibiza's legendary Amnesia, and the esteemed Exogroove in Milan.

His first mix in six years, this Soup exclusive is a kind of 'life's work', running through an expansive selection of genres unified by an electro edge. Years in the making, work on this special set began with the birth of his daughter Ottilie, who joined George in dancing through the distance of his musical journey. A momentous mix to mark our big 5-0, dive into the sounds that shaped a celebrated name in British club history.

Heartbreaking but uplifting, Jonathan Kenyon's latest is Fresh Soup's most profound edition to date; the session dedicated to close friend, Michelle, who lost her battle with cancer this week. A touching tribute to someone whose joie de vivre lit up the dancefloor wherever she went, her presence runs throughout Kenny's mix, the bright star even having had a say on its tracklist. Dear Michelle, this is for you.
