Waveguide might seem like a new artist addition to a.r.t.less’ roster, but it’s Mojuba’s japanese mainstay Stereociti presenting his new alter ego focussing on Techno side of things. In contrast to Stereociti Waveguide is approaching different methods in sound design and actual composition ranging back to the raw energy of the very beginning of Ken Sumitani’s musical journey.
Quod EP starts off with the title track and immerges you instantly into a sonic sea of swirling repetitive chords, riding on the wave of a steady ever forwarding bass tone carried by the steady kick and graced with echoing synth stabs and syncopated hats along the way.
The second track Tightrope is raising the tempo propels you right into to space on a funky broken beat lurching through space debris and stardust while catch glimpses of beautiful supernovas while trying to elude those gravitational forces caused by black holes.
Lemma the EP’s third title is carrying on the tempo and the broken funk if its predecessor but delivers a friendlier outlook with whirling and swelling melodies, like it wants to prepare you for the final adventure of this tonal journey.
Cubic Root closes out the first Waveguide mission on Mojuba sub label a.r.t.less with an orchestra of tripping acid basslines accompanied by dripping like synth leads exploring the polymetric realm of Techno in an always evolving echo chamber. Shcuro is the alias of João Ervedosa a DJ, producer and graphic designer based in Lisbon. He also runs the record labels Sombra and Paraíso,  makes music as Jose Acid and hosts a show on Rádio Quântica. His first contact with a DJ setup happened at age 15, and that’s when Shcuro decided to buy his own turntables and mixer; and started producing his own beats, too. He’s since released music on Basal, Circus Maximus, Obscuur Techno, Golden Mist Records and his most recent collaboration with Photonz for Future Déjà Vu.
‘Particle of Memory’ is a hypnotic 6-track EP that explores new territories in contemporary dance music. Sonically Shcuro paints his sounds blending moody techno with industrial noises alongside fast, apocalyptic electro and breakbeat. He is influenced by Portuguese rave culture that was born in the mid-90s at Lisbon clubs Alcântara-Mar and Kremlin and the country’s first electronic label Kaos Records. Shcuro continues to expand and morph this rich dance heritage to create something entirely different. The bouncy, lead track “Afterlife” features vocals and lyrics by London's ELLES followed by a Decadent Dub rework. All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. Housed in a die-cut jacket designed by Eloise Leigh reminiscent of ‘90s escape/sci-fi films with futuristic bright pink pop flourishes.

Following the polyrhythmic experiments of Pokies at the end of last year, Berlin-based Hot Concept step into 2020 with a new EP from a hero of the UK underground, Bleaching Agent. Renowned individually for his no-holds-barred techno productions as well as being one half of gabber-Italo duo Blacknecks, he's graced imprints like Komisch, Mira and Opal Tapes. His debut on Hot Concept, Not Colour Absolute, takes its name from a line by French Decadent poet Paul Verlaine and brings together industrial disco, tripped-out house, EBM, komische and full throttle rave cuts.

The Cobra extends its skin to welcome Benedikt Frey and Yu Su to Thailand's Siamese Twin Records family.
Today we are excited to premiere the Space Cat Re-interpretation from the German producer, DJ, and founder of the Love Pain Sunshine & Rain Label, Benedikt Frey. Well known for his fearless production, Frey masterfully reworks the relatively straightforward Mogambo's Matum, released on Cobra EP in September 2020, into a dubby sci-fi-esque wormhole. Bit-by-bit re-creating a technogenic ambition of launching cosmic troopers cats to conquer outer space, Frey transforms the original track into a beautiful and trippy multi-dimensional collage inspired by the tribal leftfield sounds.

Benedikt Frey is many. Or just one? He is a composer. An arranger. A DJ. A Liveact. A ghost producer. A fan. He also plays in bands like INIT, or Dolphins or KEYS +++ produced the last two albums for Chris Imler. Downbeat in experimental dub zones. The goat for Edits and remixes. When house was his nation, he used to listen to pen names like Suedmilch or Venedikt Reyf. He still likes the music formed under their umbrella, but today his tomorrow is not echoed in yesterday. His sound signature moved on. Into the open. He founded labels like R.i.O. or Serious Trouble. 

He lives in Berlin. Physically. In mind Benedikt Frey is at many places. Traveling far thru his home studio that is a flat a studio a flat an instrument a record collection a flat a studio. Everywhere gear, vinyl, tapes, instruments, rooms for spontaneous sonic notions, these moments, when a sudden strike of stimulation falls. He is inspired a lot. For music to dance. Music for films. Music for live shows. Music for dancing glows. Techno, house, downbeat, ambient, jungle, electronics outside the norms. Those transportive ones. Jamming with others. Jamming with his mind. In Berlin Wedding, North of the town, where the lights dimmed low, neighbors share the flow, and a small river runs slow.  As a DJ he plays here, there, everywhere. Big clubs, small shacks, festivals, gatherings. From fast to 90 BPM - as he feels. 

For himself. For the crowd. In the spur. He still remembers his club kid days. Going to dance with friends. Down there in Offenbach. Doing the Robert Johnson. Collective emotions for a better tomorrow. These he still seeks. In his music. His shows. His collaborations. You can book him for a party. For enlightenment. For ecstasy or introspective perspectives. Dancing slow, whilst pirouetting a high-pitched show. 

Since more than a decade. His own music is out there, too. Bringing his spirits in sound. On his own labels. On international imprints like ESP Institute, Hivern Discs, Craigie Knowes, or Emotional Response. Solo works. Driving ones. Slow drills. Teased during his DJ dates around the planet. 

The music plays day and night. Inspiration comes. From a simple kick drum. A movie sequence. A bird on the sill. A picture, totally still. Can’t kick that feeling when it hits. Benedikt Frey. In dreams. In streams. In music. Emotions. Situations. At night. In those flashy lights, when it bites.
