Amsterdam, 1982. Smoke fills the streets, squatters clash violently with the police, uprising is in the air. In this disorderly mess, the worlds of activism, art, fashion, and nightlife converged into an explosion of creativity. Amidst all of this Electric Party, the brainchild of René van Rijn, released the ‘Work’ tape on Amsterdam label Fetisj, now a cult cassette for the few who remember.

Forty years ago they created this unique blend of no wave, mutant disco, funk, and experimental music. It was around the time of the rise of the members-only club Mazzo, with all its prominent figures, the anarchy of the squatting movement, and the art academy connection. Everything took place in this inebriated twilight zone of blissful joy.

This record consists of 3 of the best tracks from the ‘Work’ tape and 6 unreleased tracks from forgotten cassette tapes, all remastered and restored where necessary. Among them the unreleased anthem ‘Caribe’, which was recorded in Spain as the opening track for a Spanish discotheque in 1987.

We worked 4 years to tie the strings together and we’re more than excited to release it, with its marvelous background story, well captured in liner notes written by Hannah Pezzack, and printed on a full-color inner sleeve.

Nuklear Prophet drops ‘L.A. Rockz’ ahead of full-length LP this December. Egyptian Lover, Dynamik Bass System, and DOC Nasty feature as remixers alongside the original. Hailing from downtown Los Angeles, Nuklear Prophet aka Erik Villalpando is heavily influenced by West Coast Hip Hop and Electro. Winning multiple DJ awards, including 3x World Records DJ Competition under his DJ Dope-E alias, Villalpando cites his inspiration as coming from some of the most influential Los Angeles DJs of his childhood including Tony G, DJ Joe Cooley, Julio G, and DJ Aladdin. With releases on Urban Connections, Abseits Recordings, Diffuse Reality and Bass Agenda Recordings as Nuklear Prophet, his latest EP for Utrecht-based U-Trax features remixes from Egyptian Lover, Dynamik Bass System, and DOC Nasty, and arrives ahead of forthcoming full-length album ‘Prophecies 11:21’ in December.
Rounding out the release is Germany’s Dynamik Bass System, with a melodic remix bringing a synth-heavy production around elements of the original.

When Laura (Ondula) makes jokes out of my kind of extravagant elegance, or about her elaborated saturday-night hair-style, she says that’s “macadam mambo”! When I first listened to her saying this I found it very appropriate.

Sacha Mambo, the man who together with Guillaume des Bois, started the notorious label Macadam Mambo, has been one of Diapason highlights. During the past years Sacha and me were part of the same international underground party scene and ended up putting out a couple of my most known releases, which preluded to the most recent EP “That’s when the Animals turned into humans” made with Laura under the name As Longitude and featuring Twoonky and Paul Arambula. If I remember well, Laura, Sacha and me made the agreement exactly in mid July 2018, in Berlin, just before the night at Sameheads began.

The recent lockdown forced Sameheads to cancel our latest two episodes. Shifting to this hidden virtuality, we want to keep the tradition alive and have reached out to some of our past guests and assembled a Diapason Compilation Tape Vol. 1 featuring new music from some of the artists who inspired us.

PRÉMIÈRE: Sacha Mambo - Prise D'Otage [Sameheads]

Serial Error was founded as a New Beat project when Jacob Korn was asked for a submission to the 'Our Beat Is Still New' compilation series on the Belgian We Play House label in late 2014.

Knowing the retro-experienced skills of his label mates from Uncanny Valley, he teamed up with Credit 00 & Sneaker and they produced Drum Abuse, a track that finally became the cue for their first full 12'' maxi single in 2018 on Rat Life Records; a label curated by Credit 00.
Now they keep on malfunctioning with a 4-tracker featuring the bizarre title Afro Gothic.

The eponymous track was the first shot when they got together for a second EP in Jacob's studio in now demolished premises (the typical daily Rat Life). The slow, steamy roller captures the amateurish live percussion skills of Credit 00, while - on the other hand - he played one of the manuals of Jacob's 'Son of GX' organ along with Sneaker playing the other manual of the leading voice synth.

On top, they added a classic acapella - a sudden strike of genius - 'perfectly matching the solemn vibe' (in their opinion; artist quote).

Benedikt Frey is many. Or just one? He is a composer. An arranger. A DJ. A ghost producer. A fan. He plays in bands like INIT, or Dolphins or KEYS +++ produced the last two albums for Chris Imler. Downbeat in experimental dub zones. The goat for Edits and remixes. When house was his nation, he used to listen to pen names like Suedmilch or Venedikt Reyf. He still likes the music formed under their umbrella, but today his tomorrow is not echoed in yesterday. His sound signature moved on. Into the open. He founded labels like R.i.O. or Serious Trouble. 

He lives in Berlin. Physically. In mind Benedikt Frey is at many places. Traveling far thru his home studio that is a flat a studio a flat an instrument a record collection a flat a studio. Everywhere gear, vinyl, tapes, instruments, rooms for spontaneous sonic notions, these moments, when a sudden strike of stimulation falls. He is inspired a lot. For music to dance. Music for films. Music for live shows. Music for dancing glows. Techno, house, downbeat, ambient, jungle, electronics outside the norms. Those transportive ones. Jamming with others. Jamming with his mind. In Berlin Wedding, North of the town, where the lights dimmed low, neighbors share the flow, and a small river runs slow.  As a DJ he plays here, there, everywhere. Big clubs, small shacks, festivals, gatherings. From fast to 90 BPM - as he feels. 

For himself. For the crowd. In the spur. He still remembers his club kid days. Going to dance with friends. Down there in Offenbach. Doing the Robert Johnson. Collective emotions for a better tomorrow. These he still seeks. In his music. His shows. His collaborations. You can book him for a party. For enlightenment. For ecstasy or introspective perspectives. Dancing slow, whilst pirouetting a high-pitched show. 

Since more than a decade. His own music is out there, too. Bringing his spirits in sound. On his own labels. On international imprints like ESP Institute, Hivern Discs, Craigie Knowes, or Emotional Response. Solo works. Driving ones. Slow drills. Teased during his DJ dates around the planet. 

The music plays day and night. Inspiration comes. From a simple kick drum. A movie sequence. A bird on the sill. A picture, totally still. Can’t kick that feeling when it hits. Benedikt Frey. In dreams. In streams. In music. Emotions. Situations. At night. In those flashy lights, when it bites.
