This was recorded 20 years ago: Sound running through a 5 meters long spring, attached at one end to a speaker´s membrane and on the other to a piezo transducer. What the piezo picked up was fed back into the speaker through a Korg MS 10 Synth. The "twang" sounds is banging and scratching on the spring with a fork.
Recorded mono, the material was re-recorded on a reel-to-reel tape machine as stereo tracks with a variable delay between them.
Some of the tricks are lost in history..
