Austin was born in Harlem, New York to Gordon Austin, a jazz trombonist, and Edna Austin and was raised in Bay Shore, New York on Long Island. Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington have referred to themselves as her godparents.

When she was four years old, she made her debut at the Apollo Theater and the next year had a contract with RCA Records. During the 1960s, she was a session musician who sang background vocals and commercial jingles. Brooklyn’s Razor-N-Tape releases more music than humanly possible. How they continue to add quality releases to their ever expanding catalogue is an A&R feat for the ages. Credit must be given where it’s due, and the dream team of Aaron Dae and JKriv deserve applause for the efforts they make to bring quality dance music to our ears. For their thirty-third release, the boys have tapped Mating Ritual Recordings chief, Martin Hayes, for some disco house tasties. Leaning a bit more toward up-tempo material than his previous RNT EP, Martin delivers four cuts primed for the many seasons of a changing dancefloor.

Kicking off the record’s flip side is “Turn You On,” a brass tinged heater with a walking bass line so infectious it’ll have you hands up, eyes closed in the middle of the dance-floor. This one burns hot, and the immediacy of the song’s progression makes it feel like it’s hit it’s peak before ever getting close to it. Lot’s of what we come to expect from peak hour disco house is included here. Funky bass, shimmering strings, and wait is that a giant Tuba hit? Seriously, I need to know because it’s awesome. And just like that, when you think you’ve heard it all, a sexy vocal brings your walls crashing down. You’re no longer human. You’re transcending. But don’t panic, “It’s gonna be love” so there’s no need to worry. Anyone listening to this track is having the same reaction. Release date planned for 02 february!

Glaswegian space-funkateer Am$trad Billionaire returns after years of traversing through retro-cyber galaxies, making more aggressive acquisitions in one day than Lord Sugar does in a year. His last trip was 'Galaxy 500’. It took us all to far-off places and was a bit of a big deal… Especially the lead track ‘The Plan’.

Picked up by Solomun years after its 2013 release, ‘The Plan’ was licenced for his GTA After Hours mix and gave the track a whole new lease of life. But, like all good entrepreneurs, Am$trad Billionaire (boardroom name: Jamie Miller in case you ever do business with him) is back with another investment opportunity: ‘Outer Limits’.

A project in four parts that spirals deep into his cosmic sonic universe. Once again, the man with the plan delivers and returns are guaranteed. His salubrious space funk will seal the deal with any dancefloor as each part of the EP charms us around a different corner of his sprawling, synth-heavy style.

‘Part I’ warms up the proposal with a touch of Italo diplomacy, unhurried, disarming. ‘Part II’ raises the urgency. He’s sucked you into his pitch with the dreamy synths and he’s backing it with those driving breakbeats. ‘Part III’ gives you space to digest his offer. Slower, funkier with looser drums and bubbly electro boogie edge that gets freakier the deeper into the negotiation we get before. Then finally, ‘Part IV’ builds slowly with pops and struts before a set of triumphant strings sweep in and seal the deal. Pure business; all the way those opening 909s right through to the final synth flurry.

Another day, another dollar. A billion thumbs up.
