We have always wanted to do a show where local Leicester artists can showcase their talents. With the recent unrest within our city, we wanted to present a show promoting unity and inviting artists from across Leicester.

For the first ever #Throwdown event, we were joined in the studio by Bossman, Bonnie Blazer, Dragonhearts, Loaneski, K.Y. and Tha Deadeye.

The idea is pick a beat and throw down your lyrics - simple.

Once all of the artists had arrived we had each person pick a number from a hat to decide when they would step up to the mic. To ensure complete transparency, this was done live on air and the artists stepped up in the following order:

1) Loaneski on "Keep ya head up"
2) Bonnie Blazer on "So sincere"
3) Bossman on "Invincible"
4) Dragonhearts on "Survival"
5) K.Y on "Jah world"
6) Deadeye on "Faces of death"

Dragon Hearts, K.Y, Boss Man, Loaneski & Mr Blazer on "Triumph" #THROWDOWN on Friday Flex at EAVA FM

DJ 745's 60 minute musical tribute to Donald 'Tabby' Shaw  and Fitzroy 'Bunny' Simpson RIP, two of the founding members of the longest standing vocal harmony group from Jamaica-The Mighty Diamonds. Tabby Diamond  was brutally gunned down on 29 March 2022 in a drive by shooting in Waterhouse, Jamaica and days later on 1 April 2022, Bunny Diamond passed away in hospital having suffered a stroke in 2015 and battling diabetes.

Featuring just a handful of musical gems from a career spanning over 5 decades and a replay of an interview with The Mighty Diamonds from 2018 reminiscing about the early days.

The "Friday Flex" show is a programme dedicated to supporting local Leicester, UK and international talent from music of black origin and urban culture. The show plays music from many different urban music genres including Hip-Hop, R&B, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Reggae, Dancehall, Dub, Dubstep, UK Garage and much more. The show is presented by Vijay Umrao (Veej) and Sushil Umrao (Sush) along with members of the community who want to gain experience in the radio industry.

From a very young age Vijay has been a big fan of urban music and culture, one of his childhood dreams came true when he became a member of the EAVA FM management team. He then founded and began presenting the "Friday Flex". The first live broadcast was on the last Friday of February 2012.

Sushil joined Vijay on the show from October 2012 bringing with him a different style and persona. Sushil's musical tastes include Reggae, Dancehall, Dub, Jungle, Drum & Bass, and Dubstep. Vijay’s musical tastes include Hip Hop, R&B, UK Garage and enjoys all music of black origin. Working together, the two presenters have developed a show which is informative, funny, topical and positive.

Both presenters strongly believe in "Unity" and "Community Cohesion". Whilst the UK urban scene tends to be the main focus area of the show, the "Friday Flex" also presents music from the international music scene.

The show has regular guests who come into the EAVA FM studios for in depth interviews. Guests have included local artists such as Dragonhearts, Killa T, Worlds Apart, Triix, Boss Man, Shot 21, Kerfew, Loaneski, John Maveric, Emperorfari Sound System and K.Y. We have also welcomed Vega from South Africa, J-Sol, Bay-C from globally renowned dancehall group T.O.K, MMA Battle Arena and the legendary reggae artist Dawn Penn.

The show tries to capture the Friday night feeling by playing a range of feel good music for the listeners tuning in. The team always encourage listeners to contact the show with any shout outs, requests or dedications. The passion of the presenters, along with the selection of music and the audience participation all play key roles in the success of the show.

"Friday Flex" is also helping artists and the urban culture scene by attending events and performances such as Notting Hill Carnival, Hysteria, Mixed Martial Arts, One Dub and other live shows and events.

After the interviews and live shows an article, photos and a short video is produced and published online to encourage future events and to help community cohesion within the urban scene.
