@rushcity is a collaboration between producers Jonahlo and Joint4nine’s Ivan Lozano.

Their brand new EP is a collection of four Nu classic house tracks that they created alongside London singer Handerk. Brimming with 90’s cool and 20’s production skills it’s a strong statement with which to launch their brand new label @ritmoterco, a label paying tribute to the roots of electronic dance music.

K.Mo Feat Byron The Aquarius - Space Funk [Wayout Records]

Wayout Records was founded in 2020 by Manchester DJ and producer James Kumo aka K.Mo. Conceived as an outlet to house his own productions, with a vision to collaborate and form a collective with like-minded artists. The label  has dropped releases by Glasgow legends Manakins, Tokyo’s Mahal, London maverick Toby Tobias and French multi-instrumentalist Larry Quest.   Wayout Records dedicates its time and wax to the deeper side of soulful house and electronica.

 

Towards the end of June the label will release the ‘Space Funk EP’ by label head K.Mo,  featuring man of the moment Byron The Aquarius.  The deep house groove of ‘Space Funk’ has Byron on keys, laying down his trademark synth and bassline stabs courtesy of his Prophet 6.  The warm and soulful vibes sit alongside driving drum patterns and additional live percussion by Mauskovic Dance Band member Chris Bruining.  The B side opens with ‘Moon Light Shuffle’, delivering a captivating bass line with synth lead melodies accenting the organic solo to die for from the super talented Tim Jules. Close ‘Inner Soul’ is full of sparkle with heady pads, luscious piano chords again from Tim Jules, elevating this very credible record to a whole other level.

The krankbrother label comes back out of the blocks this May, hot on the heels of their inaugural release (produced by krankbrother themselves), with a second offering, this time from young Welsh producer Jody Barr.  Having been producing and demo-ing material for the last couple of years, Barr has been picking up some fans of late, including George FitzGerald and B-Traits, and this release on krankbrother marks his debut single, and a bright future.

With its heavy kick and growling sub-bass dominating the release opener, “Room 108” smacks of ‘big-room’ in all the right places.  Barr works the basic elements to maximum effect, serving up a hefty peak time track that straddles the line of house and techno with ease.

Continuing at this pace, “Think About It” once more relies on the powerful drums for its impact, adding dramatic rising synths and sunrise strings to carve out a most hedonistic production, whilst the energy levels don’t let up for one minute as “Arizona Dream” fuses its dubby techno sounds with goose bump inflicting pianos and soft strings to memorable effect.
