Moving from the darker themes & 80’s influence of their previous releases, Lone Wild dive into the vast soundscape of the 90’s with their latest song, Up With The Sun. Inspired by a dream had by lead singer Ashkan Karimi, Lone Wild tell a story of love intertwined with the bittersweet challenges that come from pursuing your passions. Familiar vocal melodies greeted by washy music themes become the backdrop as lyrics, ‘Now, come be with me now, I’ll be up with the sun where it feels like home’ serve as a reminder of the comfort found in love & the things that are sure to us everyday while we embrace the waves that life throws at us - allowing them to take us where they may.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

"A lot of stuff was going on in my life during the writing process of Every Evening, the Sunset Crooks its Thumb Across the River. In the midst of the tropical Swedish summer of 2018, my wife and I decided to take a break in our relationship after 9 years. Simultaneously, we were busy planning a move to another country, so things weren’t exactly stable in our lives.

However, the creative process surrounding this album was relatively easy as the project served as a safe haven from my otherwise tumultuous life at the time. That’s often the tradeoff you’re doing when you’re facing hardships in your life: your personal issues might be weighing you down, but it always comes with an immense charge of creative energy, at least for me. The songs were written fast and chronological as they happened in my life, from the middle of July to October 2018.

Eventually, my wife and I reached some common ground and decided to stick together. Given that turn of events, the album starts off pretty grim but eventually ends up in a more positive and redeeming place. The album, which was recorded in Malmö, Sweden, and Lisbon, Portugal, in a short period of time, is very personal, but the overall theme could universally serve as a document for when a person’s life turns upside down for a period of time.

Musically, I didn’t even think of artistic inspirations this time, I just let the songs come to me and used whatever piano, guitar, organ or string sounds I found beautiful and moving at the time of recording. I guess the end result became a digitalized version of 70’s chamber pop.  My new adapted town of Lisbon also served as a major source of inspiration in terms of being someplace new, providing me with a fresh perspective on life in the end."

Felix Lee, the producer formerly known as Lexxi and @5tarb01, Elysia Crampton collaborator and ex-organiser of the culture-clash Endless parties and its namesake NTS radio show, has signed to Planet Mu. The first fruits of his future album is 'KOH', a vocal debut from Felix, co-produced by Whitearmor with additional vocals by Ecco2k (@gravityboys)

Felix delivers his cascading verse through spiralling fx, as if in a haze of insomnia, "It's like I'm living inna daze", Ecco2k operating as a dual voice, as the delicate synths seem to shimmer back in response. "I'm the king of hearts I got missing parts"; the lyrics paint an ambigiuous picture of detachment and shapeshifting, dreamt through the lense of a petty thief; "I'm breaking thru your locks, jumper cable knots, run off with the engine block". A taste of what's to come.

Our next release sees the return of both Jazzdefector and Slow Clinic, who contributed albums to our catalog in 2016 and 2018 respectively. The pair have been connected via social media for quite some time but when James Armstrong (Slow Clinic) had posted about a stint of writer’s block, Sebastian Buccheri (Jazzdefector) messaged to suggest a collaboration.
James agreed and set about creating the sort of paired-back material which started this journey, with his debut for Somehow Recordings; a guitar, a volume pedal, octaver and an endless feedback delay. This was passed over to Sebastian who added his signature guitar sound to add new layers of improvised melody to James’ drones.

The collaboration that became ‘Green Echo’ drew out a combined strength between two artists who had reached a plateau in their creativity at that point. In their mutual brick walls they found that the blocks were removed through the creation of Green Echo. The bouncing back and sharing of ideas, or echoes if you prefer, translated into something greener, as hope and optimism took hold. The album itself has also become a collection of memories which reflect this positive experience created in winter and for Sebastian in particular, he recalls the fading green landscapes of the midlands, UK countryside in which he lives.

For our next release, we are pleased to present Luis Miehlich, an artist based in Heidelberg, South Germany. Luis has contributed compilation pieces to labels such as Eilean and Dronarivm as well as an EP on Kage Recordings and most prominently, his debut album Silences on Archives. Whilst he is relatively young when compared with many of his Ambient peers, Luis has been performing music since the age of five thanks to a musical household and over recent years has drawn influence from composers Jean-Michel Jarre, Steve Reich and Béla Bartók as well as Ambient labels such as Hibernate, Home Normal and Archives.

In 'Timecuts' we have the follow-up record to 'Silences' which builds upon some unused/rediscovered material from between 2013 and 2015. These were heavily processed and then expanded upon with additional compositions and instrument sounds. The reworking of past material became a concept of sorts, as matching the old with the new became an important part of the process. Luis decided to extend a wider invitation to adapt these works to other artists, with a brief to reinterpret rather than simply remix. Erder and SineRider were logical participants, after both having featured in the 'Silences' album. Then our own Glåsbird as well as Gallery Six joined to complete the line-up.

Timecuts clocks in generously at just over an hour, starting with Luis' seven pieces. Everything from bells, drones, static, guitar, piano and radio static becomes a woven fabric to this beautfiully varied album which is a tapestry of short dreams. The invited artists were given the stems from the original works rather than Luis' own recreations, to help give further room for experimentation. The remixes add an extra dimension, which becomes every bit as crucial a part of a record steeped around themes of adaptation.
