Corporeal EP – AQAXA’s debut release on Punch Up Records – marshals deep beats, densely layered synthetic and acoustic sounds, and echoes of sonic memories fused into warm sheets of noise. The result is a space that is both introspective and euphoric.

AQAXA weaves audio messages and voice memos recorded over the years into an enveloping, warm, and pulsating kind of electronic music. The exploration of this personal archive is guided by machine learning algorithms, with which AQAXA performs, building new narratives from ephemeral digital remnants of its recent past.

With only three eps released since 2019 he has a long list of stunning collaborations: Bringing David Auguts together with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, creating a electronic dance opera with Daniel Brandt and Fukiko Takase or remixing acclaimed House Djs Santé & Re.you. His audiovisual live-show "The Arrival" produced with digital artist Maotik has been invited to Scopitone Festival in Nantes and Multiplica Festival in Luxembourg. Xlr8r described Nagel´s music as an „auditory wormhole full of light, darkness, and cosmic bliss“.

His latest Dj-set brings together established figures and hidden talents from europe to brazil. Focusing on Techno and Progressive House the set is building up constantly and delivering one fresh track after another. A perfect auditive trip meant to warm up the year 2024."

Frieder Nagel continues his new series with “Who Knows”, featuring Daniel Brandt — composer, drummer, and co-founder of the acclaimed trio Brandt Brauer Frick.

A dark, menacing track unfolds under severe rhythmic tension. Constantly building, its long elegiac melodies evolve and dissolve within majestic string arrangements and Nagel’s signature Moog textures. The single comes with two additional versions: a shorter, more condensed radio edit, and a beatless ambient version that highlights the piece’s meticulous sound design.

Ich verspeise Himmel is a Theater play by Werner Müller about the Lyric of Wislawa Szymborska. The soundscapes were played on a set-up consisting of seven non-directional speakers, providing the playground for the actors on stage. I used old radios, fieldrecordings and vocal cuts to create the sounddesign. It was played season 2011-14,  toured to Chernivtsi/Ukraine and was hounored by the jury of Bayrische Theatertage.

"Breeze" is undoubtedly the most solar contribution of Frieder Nagel´s Karoshi EP. A constantly evolving and growing rollercoaster ride with euphoric piano loops, sirens re-calling Blade-Runners famous opening titles from Vangelis, up-lifting live-drumming, almost symphonical drones, which evolve alongside carefully recorded woodwinds, dreamy vocal samples and a wellfed baseline underneath.

Warme Synthesizersounds, Klangflächen, Geräuschtexturen und reduzierte aber tanzbare Beats - Frieder Nagels liebevoll gelayerte organische Tracks tragen Melancholie in sich, jene, die das Gemüt niemals zu tief in den Abgrund zieht, sondern auch ein Angebot zum Aufbruch macht. Gerade aus dieser Dynamik heraus schafft die Musik auch Raum für euphorische Momente. Seine Kompositionen laden zur Realitätsflucht ein, doch bevor man sich komplett verliert, schiebt sich ganz subtil dieses diffuse Bedrohungsszenario vor die Augen.

2016 trat Frieder Nagel erstmals, zusammen mit dem Musikproduzenten David August und dem Berliner Symphonie Orchester, im Berliner Radialsystem V auf. Im selben Jahr wurde das Konzert von Boiler Room als Video veröffentlicht. Die künstlerische Zusammensetzung dieses ersten Auftritts zeigt Frieder Nagels allgemeine Experimentierfreudigkeit. Bei seinen Ausflügen in die unterschiedlichsten Genres arbeitet sich der Berliner durch klassische Musik, durch die elektronische Clubkultur und von Theaterproduktionen zu audio-visuellen Experimenten.

Es folgten Auftritte in der Philharmonie Essen, beim Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg sowie in Underground-Clubs wie dem Acud in Berlin oder dem Nummer zu Platz (Nr. z. P.) in Bielefeld. Außerdem produzierte er das Musikvideo zu Daniel Brandts Track Flamingo, der beim Londoner Label Erased Tapes erschienen ist.

Anfang 2019 wurde Frieder Nagels erste EP „Distract Robots“ auf dem renommierten französischen Label Infiné veröffentlicht. Im vergangenen Sommer komponierte er die Musik für den Don Juan Techno Club der japanischen Choreografin Fukiko Takase für die Gluck Festspiele Nürnberg und für die interaktive Dokumentation Field Trip von Eva Stotz über den verlassenen Berliner Flughafen Tempelhof. Seine zweite EP Karoshi (2020) baut laut dem Groove-Magazin Jazziges, Neoklassisches und Synthetisches mit gebrochenen Techno-Electro-Beats "mit einer überlegenen Souveränität" zusammen.

Laissez-Faire Podcast #29 - Frieder Nagel

When Frieder Nagel got the invite to use a part of the city park Nuremberg for an installation, he teamed up with light artist Stephan Scheiderer "to make music livable again“: When park goers passed by an old, majestic plane tree, it automatically sprung to life (thanks to some complicated motion sensors installed and hidden by the two) - and the first soft notes of „Calm Territory“ beckoned people to stop and spend some time by this historic tree.

This installation was presented during Lost & Found, an art circuit in Nuremberg, Germany in 2020. Played on a combination of prepared pianos including Klavins Una Corda.

Frieder Nagel is a German composer and music producer known for his dark, immersive electronic style, merging techno with experimental and melodic soundscapes. Signed to InFiné Music, he has performed at the Reeperbahn Festival, Boiler Room, Multiplica, and Scopitone Festival, crafting intense, hypnotic performances driven by deep basslines and haunting synths.
In addition to his original work, Nagel has gained recognition for his remixes of influential artists such as Rone, Niklas Paschburg and Santé, reinterpreting their sounds through his unique, atmospheric lens.
Currently building a new studio at Z-Bau, he is also working on a debut album from his home in the woods. His latest single, “Do As I Please”, dives into the battle between despair and hope, delivering a relentless, tension-filled techno experience.
