We created this mix together the last week before christmas break, after a year of shared interest in music and mixing, and failure-to-launch mix attempts. 

With both of our other roommates out for the holidays, we decided this would be the perfect time to buckle up and put our money where our mouths were. We wouldn't admit it at the time, but neither of us thought we had a chance of getting a mix recorded before 2018. 

It came down to the night before we left but here she is. She’s more than a little rough around the edges, and there’s even a few places we boofed up in hilarious ways, but at least money and mouth have been reunited at long last. 

We learned a bunch along the way - some specific to mixing (not to try 30 bpm jumps in 3 consecutive songs.. or maybe at all, to that point), some more generally applicable, like rediscovering the adrenaline rush of experiencing something for the first time. and sharing passions with people who feel the same way. 

It’s hard to top the constant thrill of novelty. The excitement of getting home to work at a new hobby or project, and being obsessed with it throughout the day. The grind and constant tease of getting so close to wrapping up a take before a mistake sends you crashing back to the start. And finally, the pure giddiness and ecstasy of finishing a full recording for the very first time. The culmination of years of passion, finally producing something you feel proud of. 

Crazy how 2017’s in the rear view mirror. a year ago this time we were new roommates getting to know each other, getting a gauge by sharing music tastes. Fast forward through countless concerts, trips, and epic times shared together, with friends and family and we’ve put our heads together in a week long grind to convey all of that through this mix. An incredible year spent with incredible people, in unreal places, represented by 47 minutes of music. 

We both are so happy to say that this mix definitely would not be the same without each other. It dances at times, and runs, and also stumbles and falls, and that’s true to life. The growth in this past year has been real, with more to come. 

Hopefully this can be a launching pad rather than the finish line. Cheers to 2018 - to half-assing less things and whole-assing more, and enjoying every step of it along the way.
