One of Detroit’s finest exports is legendary house and techno pioneer, Gari Romalis, and as we enter what could potentially be a summer of love he creates an outstanding four track EP, “Black Traxx Matter”, spreading a message which scratches way below the surface, using music as a tool to share. The body of work spans across distinctive and slinky deep house energy, oozing class and emotion, notably what we have all come to love and adore in Romalis’ back catalogue. Opener “Black 2 Da Future” rides an effortlessly cool groove, brushing by in the summer breeze, paying homage to brighter days. Next up is “Black Diamondz (Africa Mix)”, consisting of a tight and punchy drum arrangement, and warm and infectious sub bass. Welcoming you with open arms.

“Black Luv” is lighter on its feet than the previous tracks, a definite housey spring in its step, all of the elements conversing in sweet harmony. A cruise down nostalgia lane. “Purpose Reprise (Motivate Mix)” closes this wonderful EP. Six and a half minutes of pure bliss which shifts into a pure and powerful moment when a spoken word sample enters the room, as the soft keys work their way around the message.

A masterpiece body of work from one of the most esteemed artists in the game. The Nicepeople label keep continuing to propel high quality sounds from new and established artists, with a healthy schedule already pencilled in for 2021.

For its fifth anniversary, the French label barbecue is releasing a compilation of unreleased tracks by artists who have marked the label in recent years and takes the opportunity to present their new recruits.

Originally created for Blutch with vinyl releases including remixes by legendary artists such as Terrence Parker, the label has gone digital, revealing young artists like DJ Streaks and his hit tracks “The Best Rapper Alive” and “Greatest Love”.
For these five years the label keeps its artistic line, namely, release the ideal soundtrack for a barbecue, a house music agreeing to get lost in the different branches of the style.

Barbecue takes advantage of this compilation to present alongside Blutch, DJ Nervous, Jamaimoi and Jan Janssen the new heads who will take over the next release of the label. Simon Loucas from Adelaide, the Parisian Takadoum and Stay Jaya & Scatter from the Peckham district of London, present the best that deep house has to offer. Blutch for whom everything started, finish the compilation with the title “Un Amour Inconditionnel”, the best song released on the label to date but was until now only available in vinyl. The best of yesterday and tomorrow!

File under: (G)old sounds. New label @seven-hills-records starts life with a reissue compilation  of tracks first released on the tantalisingly fleeting UK label Nation of Noise in the early 90s.

Nation of Noise was forged when vocalist Jon ? Martin and producer Django struck up a partnership after meeting at beloved Soho spot The Brain. Three collaborative EPs arrived on the imprint under three different aliases in as many years.

Seven Hills picking out prime cuts from each EP for the 'Nation of Noise 91 - 93' reissue and fully remastering them marks digging of the highest order, pulling together a collection of tracks that have a prescient-yet-classic feel that's well worthy of updated attention. 

'Elvis Stole My Space Hopper' from the Super Bubble project was favoured by champions of all things cutting-edge Colin Faver and Colin Dale on KISS FM back in the day, and 25 years later we're banking on its magnetic take on low-slung acid house thrilling a new generation of ears.
