About 3 years ago I made one of my first tunes as Midland called "Hub", which I put on my Fact Mix. It features the guitar playing of my brother Jamie (Anywayawana).  Its not a dancefloor thing, more something for late nights driving down empty highways inspired by artists like Ry Cooder and Jonas Munk.

Decided to spend some time mixing a song completely outside of my normal genre. The original stems can be found here (anyone can download the stems and mix this song):

“Long Way to Detroit” is a groover of a MPC-styled workout that stitches together various voices that comment on the city of cities all the while shuffling hard snares around a bubbling baseline - laid-back reminiscence guaranteed.

The flip side features one hell of a funky jam entitled “Places (Live Take)” ripped straight from a modular Acid session conducted by the mysterious outfit Richmond Wagner. Sparkling hats sprinkled over relentlessly warping bleeps and a thumper of a kickdrum will make crowds go off their heads during upcoming festival season as in any place alike.

Born in the wilderness of rural Canada, Daniel Gardner spent his formative years in relative isolation, serenaded by the supernatural sounds of the environment in which he inhabited. Not content with his traditional schooling, he spent wintery nights tuned into a distant university radio station, recording weird and wonderful electronic music onto a cassette tape which hung from the ceiling to study musical structures. It wasn't long before he began sampling his habitat and creating sonic landscapes of his own, as surreal and serene as his surroundings.
