An endless winter night with a gloomy light like a party that never ends through industrial, electronic and avant-garde. Elen Huynh shares 1-hour long of opening tracks that give the feeling of low concentration and not caring for anything considered worthless.

She has been building a field of spoken-word experimentations with her radio residency on LYL Paris: musical narratives, poetry readings, voices collages and collaborative pieces composed with her selected guests that forms the tape compilation "VA - Les maux libres" released in 2020. This collaborative spirit led her to provide vocals for River Yarra, Benoit B, Tryphème and Organizatsiya. She also released several tracks and she is currently preparing other collaborations for the year.

Somewhere 2 comes from Slovakian artist Adela Mede, author of the spellbinding tape Szabadság that's easily one of the most astounding things we've heard this year. Guided by the potency of her raw vocals, Adela explores folk tradition through a kaleidoscopic buzz of processed electronics, her ineffable vocals shining through in pure lucidity.

Through this mix, Adela continues her exploration of the voice. Repeating vocals chants feed into haunting moments of dissonance, heightening the innate beauty of the unprocessed song that shimmers beneath.

Somewhere #2 ~ Adela Mede

A bona fide pioneer of sound, New Zealand born Annea Lockwood transfixed the music world in the '60s and '70s with her "piano transplant" series, taking upright pianos and lighting them on fire, drowning them in bodies of water, and placing them in overgrown gardens, all while recording the audio of the process. She continues to work today, continuing a lifelong body of work that has used sound and field recording to reflect the dynamism and strangeness of the natural world, as well as question music as a solely human-made art form.

Forecast 037: Perila

Common Time is the name of a series of new music listening parties started in 2020 by Justin Tripp (Georgia) and Matt McDermott (music investigator / writer), both legends in their own right. When the first Common Time event was postponed due to the pandemic, Tripp and McDermott set to work on a mix in it’s wake. The resulting mix of mostly new music was recorded by the duo separately, in their respective houses during March of 2020, then segued together to fit the spirit of the day.  It is accompanied by a “Buy Music Club” playlist below to encourage support of the artists/labels who make this music possible.
