Listening in a very quiet environment, or at a very quiet time, preferably with good quality headphones, at no more than a moderate volume, is very much recommended. These sounds of late summer dawn in Mallee country were widely dispersed. The original recording level was 60 dB, with a further 12 dB gain in post. Listening at a low to moderate volume will more faithfully re-present the original soundscape experience. At first light, the dawn songs of Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters predominate, gracing the early dawn soundscape with a beautiful yet melancholy quality. Also occasional Owlet Nightjar calls (which have continued all through the night), Grey Butcherbirds, a couple of Emu 'drummings', some distant Ravens, amongst others; and, in the distance, briefly, a couple of strays that ought not to have been there at all.  Throughout, the sound of the wind rising and falling, through Mallee woodland of Eucalyptus and Casuarina trees.

As opposition to funding the US proxy war in Ukraine increases on Capitol Hill, empire apologists have been frantically churning out think pieces about how much the war serves US strategic interests in order to manufacture support for its continued backing by Washington. Such arguments flatly contradict the propaganda messaging we were inundated with at the beginning of the war that this was an "unprovoked invasion", but empire managers don't seem particularly interested in defending that narrative anymore.

Most frog calls were recorded in Brunei or in the Malaysian states of Sabah or Sarawak. The species have been sorted into three categories to allow easier identification depending on where a listener is: (1) urban, heavily degraded habitat, (2) forests at low elevations (<900 m ASL), (3) forests at high elevations (> 900 m ASL).  Advertisement calls of 67 species are made available as well as four soundscape recordings in which the full complexity of frog chorusing behaviour can be heard. UTNP = Ulu Temburong National Park, Brunei, BBBR = Bukit Baka Bukit Raya, West Kalimantan.
