5 Questions Interview:

1) You've been producing and DJing Techno for a long time under the DJ T-1000 alias. Now you are in the process of reinvention (for lack of a better term) with your Detroitrocketscience alias. What was the impetus for this, and will it differ from what you did as DJ T-1000?

Reinvention is indeed the operative term. I felt that "DJ T-1000" had lost respect in the marketplace. It is a brand that says "bangin' techno" in this age of post-minimal techno and deep house. It's an old name you'd see on a flyer, and you'd expect the same kind of music from him after all these years. It had become irrelevant, IMO. 

2) Conversely, you are a highly accomplished artist/illustrator. From the artist behind all the early Plus 8 graphical work to Ben Sim's recent album cover. Are you spending more time on visual art right now or is your focus more on music? And in regards to your art, do you have any gallery showings slated for the near future we should know about?

I'm spending a lot more time on art now. Ever since I started doing original canvases (especially the round ones), that part of my career has taken off. My work is owned by Sims, Cisco from the Advent, Steve Bug, Ritzi Lee, Roxy Tripp, and many others. Having an original AO in your studio has become the thing. I'm now searching out spaces for the next art happening. My last ones in Amsterdam and Berlin were very successful! Hoping to do one in the States soon.

3) It appears that you have become quite a proponent of digital DJing via Traktor. What do you see as it's benefits, and it's shortcomings?

Traktor recharged my excitement for DJing. A series of events led me to give up playing vinyl out (promoters not being equipped for vinyl anymore, for starters). Traktor's great in that you don't have to worry about beat-matching anymore, so you can concentrate on other areas of performance, like looping and editing on the fly. Heresy to some, but I've got nothing to prove on that front! Native just gave me a new F1 remix deck to promote and play out with, so watch out!

4) Are there any plans for Detroitrocketscience releases coming up? Any new stuff we should be on the lookout for?

5) How about touring? Any North America gigs any time soon? We'd love to see you on the West Coast!

At this point the States are dead for me outside of NYC, especially the West Coast, but never say never! Hopefully this interview will help.
