'The latest signing on Local Suicide’s imprint Iptamenos Discos is the Greek DJ / producer duo Boys’ Shorts. They’re delivering their new futuristic EP titled ‘New Era’, which includes remixes from Each Other, Lott & Local Suicide as well as Luca dell’Orso. The duo was founded by Thessaloniki-based artist Vangelis, who runs half of the music blog & label LAGASTA, as well as London-based artist Tareq. They’ve previously had releases on labels such as Super Drama, Royal Advisor, Hottwerk as well as Love Child, while also doing remixes for artists like Kasper Bjorke, Yuksek with Polo & Pan, Dharma and Kito Jemere feat. Wolfram.

	“The track was written during the lockdown period when everything looked so uncertain and scary … We were listening to a lot of music from bands as ‘Japan’ and ‘Visage’,  talking about the “New Romantics” era, thinking of what will come after this new reality we’re living in. And so “New Era” came as a result of all the relationships that were reconsidered the last two years, to show the importance of human touch and what really actually matters.” - Boys’ Shorts

The track immediately gives off a sense of space exploration due to the sound of the melody being played. While the repetitive bass keeps the track driving as the pads elevate you to a higher level, the drums keep you grooving with delicate knocks and cowbells as the claps work with the cowbells to bring some more energy into the track. There’s a slicing, ‘swoosh’ sound that fills the space of an open-hat which breaks the four bar loop subtly but perfectly. The track's vocals have a wide sound to them that helps simulate the vastness of space. 

The critically acclaimed New York-based duo Each Other, consists of Max Pask & Justin Strauss. Max is part of The Rapture & James Friedman’s label Throne of Blood, while Justin was part of power-pop band Milk ’n’ Cookies. Previously they’ve released their original productions and remixes on labels like Soulwax’s DEEWEE, Freeride Millennium, Correspondant and more. Their version of ‘New Era’ brings a more energetic break-beat style tune that’s more in your face than the original. The synth plucks feel as though they’re jabbing you, trying to get you to move while building up tension. When the next synth comes in the track starts flowing, especially when the hats start grooving along with it. The vocals are clearer and more direct when compared to that of the original. The synth keys that come later resemble that of an organ but still have a futuristic sound to them. 

Having released on labels such as Italo Moderni, Wrong Era, Bordello A Parigi & XXX, the Dutch born, Italo-wave-electro producer Luca dell’Orso brings a sense of hi nrg and italo disco to ‘New Era’. Between the sound of the synth and the kicks as well as the use of repetitive kicks, the track puts an awesome and nostalgic twist on Boys’ Shorts track. 

Tel Aviv artist Lott, who has previously released on labels like Feines Tier, New Day Everyday, Karakter Records & Belly Dance Services joins up with Iptamenos Discos heads, Local Suicide to create the ‘In The Trance Mix’ of ‘New Era’. The track has a jerking and rolling bass that moves through your body. The percussion and drums are delicate, leaving more room for the classic mind-bending synths that are typical of trance music. The vocals are also super spacey and copped up and add an awesome groove. 

Boys’ Shorts and the contributors set out to create a project with the idea of providing an outer worldly experience, that is exactly what they did with each track having its own unique style. ‘New Era’ will be released digitally and on strictly-limited clear 12” Dubplate through Iptamenos Discos on February 25th.'

The prolific Spanish DJ, producer and audio engineer K-Effect strikes again! His new adventure, this time released on the new and promising label Lumineux Records, brings remixes by our dear Shubostar (SXDNS042) and the lively duo Los Fugazzi. The Mexican lads, showing up for the first time on our platform, have already left us looking forward to their next appearance.

When we received the file to review, we imagined that their task must have been a little bit tricky: On one hand, the high quality of the original track must have facilitated their job. On the other, the high quality of the original track must have hampered their job. As we suspected, the former prevailed. It’s about the Los Fugazzi we are talking, for God’s sake! No challenge is no match for them!

By the way, we had the pleasure of having a small chat with the boys and talking about this new work: “After taking a year break to focus on our personal projects, we managed to work for this remix. The original track had its own unique cosmic vibe, which made it easier for us the whole process. We tried to focus on emulating our own sound again. Since we’ve been working on our own, this was an obstacle. We went back, listened to our sounds, synths, percussions and tried to emulate them. The result was as expected, a chuggy cosmic remix, without going to a dark, simple track”, they said.

A beautiful interpretation of another solid work by our K-Effect. A collaboration that we expect to happen again with no tardiness. A magnificent synth disco-ish tune devoted to taking us to a long journey deep into that very spot in which only good music reaches and makes us whisper to ourselves: “Oh, yes, right there, that’s it!”. The list of compliments can keep going, but we imagined you have already got it.

Review: If you're gonna give your EP a title like that, you'd damn well better HAVE 'da funk' to back it up. Thankfully, Mexican producer Van Pratt most assuredly does. 'Nothing But Funk' itself kicks off the EP, opening with a full-phat bassline before ushering in an 80s boogie-style vocal and some VERY 80s-sounding synth chords. That sets the tone for the rest of the EP, with 'Groove It' marrying white-socked 80s soul vibes to a liquid-y funk geetar line while 'All Night Long' is a straight-up boogie number built for cruising along Ocean Drive with the top pulled down and your Wayfarers on, baby...

DJ T. is an increasingly regular presence on the label having put out a number of singles in the last year as well as releasing on the likes of Play It Say It. He is a venerated veteran who has done everything from open clubs to edit magazines and release wide ranging full lengths. His finger remains firmly on the pulse of the freshest underground sounds despite such a long career.

The track itself is a dazzling affair with a chugging groove overlaid with brilliant Italo melodies. The slick production is warm and colourful and makes for a future retro affair with a squelchy bassline that is guaranteed to get hands in the air.

You can always rely on DJ T. to serve up timeless cuts and that’s just what he does here with a record that also provides an early taster of his ‘Transorient Express’ LP scheduled for next year.

If the members of the "From disco to disko" team had chosen to buy guitars at the age of fifteen, the story would certainly have been different. But, as we are just entering the 2000s, as the club culture has finished flooding Europe's biggest cities, turntables have become a dream come true, even in Corsica. To use these turntables you need records. When they can't find them at the only dealer in the Bastia region, they order them (or steal them in dubious mp3 versions) on the web.
It is precisely this tool, the Internet, that shakes up their certainties at the dawn of their twenties. Myspace, Reason, the Fluokids... the Mediterranean fades away, Calvi on the rocks explodes, nothing will ever be like before. These island festivals they skimmed, as party people, as artists. As the years go by, their transversal tastes assert themselves.
In 2017, the monthly From disco to disko evenings were born, leading to the creation of an eponymous label in early 2019, a new medium to express their multifaceted love of dance music. 
Italo, dark disco, electronica, the now modest label owners Valerj & Alto Kango are fond of uninhibited evening sets, built to last. Elegant warm-up or end-of-the-night "plasticage", it's hard to know which way to dance with them.
