Groomy 06.08.2022

Seth Groombridge, known by his DJ alias Groomy, is a local Wellington DJ/Producer versed in the drum and bass music scene. His unique style uncovers the more minimal/underground side of the genre, taking inspiration from the likes of labels including 1985 Music, Sofa Sound and Critical Music. 

From starting mixing in 2020, Groomy has had the opportunity to play a few local gigs at Edison’s bar, kicking it off with a mix competition he qualified for called Bass on Blair. From then he has travelled up the line to support Burnzy and will be playing on local support for Skantia (UK) mid August. Over the last six months, Groomy has been honing his production craft and has set plans to release some music in the near future.

This mix starts out by exploring the liquid realms of drum and bass, before progressing into the more minimal/funky blends, showcasing his style as an artist that he’s best known for.

Ōtautahi born with South African roots, DJ and Producer under the alias “Cherry” explores and pushes boundaries within the soundscapes of heavy, bass-predominant & percussion focused Dubstep/140s. Cherry has been making a name for herself as a DJ with her unique and distinguishable take on mixing within the genre of Dubstep as she draws inspiration from an array of genres which can be heard in each and every mix that she carefully crafts.

Over the past two years, Cherry has been found playing locally within Ōtautahi’s underground scene alongside some of Aoteroa’s finest artists and best kept talent, including a diverse mixture of both up and coming and already well-established artists. After only recently making her debut at Twisted Frequency Festival, one of Aoteroa’s most well-known and respected summer/new year’s music festivals, you can expect to see Cherry on more line-ups across the country in the very near future.

Conor Sutherland is a dynamic artist hailing from Wellington, New Zealand. He co-directs two cutting-edge collectives, Lacuna and FirstFloor, and showcases his versatility as a producer and performer through an eclectic mix of dance music. With recent bookings for renowned events such as RnV and SASH Sundays Aotearoa.

In addition to his solo work, Conor is also half of the drum and bass duo, Name Suppression, alongside his close friend Manaia Hiha. Who have played support slots for heavyweights in the genre such as Alix Perez, GLXY, Sustance, Kasra, Particle, and Invadhertz.

After a hectic summer of DJing, I was feeling limited in my musical expression, confined to playing mostly house music. So, in keeping with my signature style, I decided to break out of that box and present a diverse, eclectic mix that truly embodies the essence of Fruit Blender. Hailing from Christchurch, Damage Control (aka Brookie Thorpe) came straight out of red light COVID restrictions to debut supporting local legends Truth, Witters, Crafty & State of Mind and internationals, LUUDE & Maduk, Gray & Kara, K Motionz, Bru-C, Ben Snow, Bunnshin and REAPER. Damage Control has also hit the big smoke, Auckland with her debut at Pointers on support for Codem and Wellington at Love Not Lost on support for Andromedik. She also played Re-Ori week alongside Aussies, Peking Duk and Stace Cadet. Damage Control had her Christchurch Arena debut in October on support for Sub Focus with his Circular Sound Tour alongside Krakota and Goddard all within the first 10 months of djing. With her first festival season complete with a set at Rolling Meadows and her kick start to 2023 with the Golden lights after party alongside Dimension and Kmotionz and the Netsky & friends after party Damage Control is going full steam ahead this year. 


“This is a high energy mix of some of my favorite songs and blends I've been trialing out over the summer. It has a good mixture of dancefloor, sick bootlegs, some naughty little jump up doubles and a few sneaky IDs from friends that I love playing out. Meet Noyer, a talented DJ from the beautiful river city of Whanganui and now based in Pōneke. He's got an incredible knack for blending UK Garage and Breaks in a way that's uniquely his own.

From a young age, Noyer was surrounded by a diverse range of music that helped shape his eclectic style. He started honing his craft in his early teens and quickly gained recognition for his energetic sets and impeccable track selection. As he grew older, his passion for music only grew stronger, leading him to experiment with different styles and sub-genres within the electronic spectrum.

Today, Noyer is a well-respected figure in the Aoateroa electronic music scene and has played at countless clubs and events across the country most recently supporting artists such as JAEL, Peaky Beats & Killjoy. 

"This mix takes listeners on a journey and combines the sounds of UK Garage and Breaks to create a dynamic and energizing experience. From groovy rhythms to darker tones. I tried to showcase both established and emerging talent within the genres. In the second half of the mix, I ramp up the tempo to leave listeners feeling invigorated and ready to dance. Overall, I believe this mix celebrates the enduring power of UK Garage and Breaks and the genre's exciting new directions!"

Carl is no stranger to the Auckland music scene - he has been performing and producing electronic music in NZ since 2017, as part of the pop duo Imugi. After years of honing his production skills, Carl adopted the moniker ‘Caru’ & directed his creative efforts to the dance floor - resulting in a string of beloved UK Garage releases and a steady flow of remixes favoured by local selectors. 

Last November Caru featured his first DJ set on Bassment TV - showcasing 100% self-produced Aotearoa remixes celebrated by fans and DJs alike. In the same month, he had his first international release on Bristol-based label "Belters", and recently released his own UKG remix of Scribe's NZ hip-hop classic "Not Many The Remix!"

Caru’s newfound creative momentum shows no signs of slowing, with international collaborations in the works and new releases on the horizon.

Nozza, located in central Wellington, has had a passion for Drum & Bass after attending his first show at the Hunter Lounge, supporting Lee Mvtthews. His love for dancefloor, rollers and heavy bass has only grown over the past 2 years since that night and has been a staple in his sets, from DDJ-400’s to the clubs, he is definitely grown rapidly. Nozza has supported the likes of Unglued, Sota, Amplify, Siren and closed the UKF mid year festival at Eva Beva. 

“This set means a lot to me as I feel I have been able to express my love for Drum & Bass the most out of any other work I have done before. Nori.wav is a producer based in Dunedin, NZ making and being involved in all facets of electronic music including Drum & Bass, Garage, 140 and grime. Recently released a full length LP showcasing his diversity of music genres in this release. 

Bop Boy is a release that mixes elements of 140, Garage, jungle and grime with quick paced drums and a groovy bass line. Nori.wav is excited for this release and can’t wait to share with you all.

MESSIE - drummer turned breaks DJ has been quickly making ground and a name for herself in the Pōneke scene. MESSIE effortlessly blends the likes of UK Garage, Jungle, Jersey Club, House, Techno and is always drawing inspiration from others around her and the emotions she feels when experiencing other sets.


Coming from a drumming background, breaks are an essential and key element to every MESSIE set. I tried to keep a consistent level of them throughout this set, in and amongst almost every song. I’ve been really deep on the soundcloud rabbit hole of finding the most ridiculous remixes lately but i’ve also found a decent amount of singalong gems that personally I would go absolutely feral to if I heard them live 🤪 so i’ve included a couple of them here to keep the set fresh and high energy. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

Lukaz is an upcoming UK Garage and Jungle DNB DJ/Producer Hailing Wellington. His mixing style consists of blending heavy basslines paired with a Junglist MC to create a satisfying combination of filth with a jungle-inspired lyrical flow.

With his blends being uplifting and bubbly, with a side of wobbling and rollers, his main inspirations behind his mixing are Sammi Virji, Conducta, Bou & Born on Road. Lukaz began his mixing journey in 2021, after a friend of his lent him his DDJ400s, this opened up a whole new obsession for Luke which has lasted to this day.

Recently formed, Lukaz is a member & founder of the Tempo’d Collective, a multi-city, multi-genre DJ collective focusing on the group of 15 DJs within the group. Recently he has been ripping it up at a couple of multi-genre nights, showcasing his love for bouncy & bubbly UK Garage.

An alchemist of deep, rolling basslines, euphoric sweetness, and bone-rattling jungle beats. Hailing from Australia, Dread Maiden's aural journeys draw inspiration from the ebb and flow of progressive metal, psychedelic rock, dub, and drum and bass, with a goal to manifest eclectic mixes of light and dark, high and low, she takes listeners on captivating voyages. 

Dread Maiden is a resident DJ for Sydney's Cabin Fever Crew and is the driving force behind Newcastle's Newy Bass Crew. She has performed at renowned parties all over Australia and shared the stage with artists like OK EG, Jam Thieves, Serial Killaz, Dillinja, and Paige Julia. She recently featured at Australia's Zenith Gathering Festival, Dragon Dreaming Festival, Basscamp, Rain Dance Festival and Subsonic Festival.

PL@, an Auckland based DJ and MC with a focus on all aspects of 140 BPM. His musical journey started at 6 playing the drums with a focus on multiple sub genres of rock. As he got older, he found himself gravitating towards Hip Hop and various forms of EDM. 

During his early teens, he had a wee Skrlilex phase as most do, but after a while found the robot clanging a bit intense and forgot about Dubstep. Fast forward a few years down the track and he began DJing DnB and had a love for the minimal side so jumped at the chance to see Alix Perez live for the first time back in 2021. On this night, PL@ rediscovered Dubstep in a new way - the original UK way, and from that day on he has been hooked. 

“Since then, I"ve picked up MCing and started the Support Your Local Collective with my best mate and with this, we're pushing Deep Dubstep in NZ with a focus on highlighting the wicked local producers we have in this country.

Meet Eight-Oh, born and raised in Pōneke whose roots in the music
scene run deep. Growing up amidst a family of DJ’s, Eight-Oh was
destined to be. Making her debut in 2021, she kicked off her Drum n Bass journey supporting Danny Byrd. Following that, she has supported heaps of local NZ legends such as Lee Mvtthews, Pirapus, Zeisha, Tweed and Elipsa. It doesn’t end there, she’s also supported international legends such as A.M.C, Macky Gee, S.P.Y, Andromedik, Georgie Riot, Unglued, Lens and Degs.

In 2022 Eight-Oh fell in love with house music and decided to become a multi-genre DJ. This saw her supporting Body Ocean, Odd Mob, Bushbaby, Sin & Brook, SYRUP and Dance System.
Becoming a multi-genre DJ has opened many doors for her. Eight-Oh has played alongside local and international artists on the stages of Bay Dreams South, Homegrown, High Tide and even toured on the George FM Summer Tour. Her infectious energy, track selection and electrifying performances captivates the crowd and will have you dancing.

Kalo is a multi genre DJ and producer based out of Wellington NZ. Kalo began his love for rave music 5 years ago and has continued to grow and expand into new areas. Kalo has supported a heap of local and international talent including the likes of A.M.C, Andromedik, Odd Mob, Bushbaby, Pirapus, S.P.Y, Joey Illah, and Pixie Lane.

Kalo is renowned for bringing high energy blends and huge switch ups to the dancefloor. Whether it be drum & bass, bass house or tech house, there will always be something to get you dancing.

Kalo has already had a massive 2024 so far and has plans to keep up the momentum heading into the summer. Keep an eye out for upcoming shows and his debut release featuring Sammi.



This mix was so fun to make. It's a bunch of my favourite blends and mixes from the last few years all brought together. Some parts are brand new and some are from when I first started mixing. I've included heaps of different subgenres so there's something for everyone. I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I did making it.

Luke Kalivati aka VATI was Born in Tāmaki Makaurau, raised in Petone and is now based in Pōneke. Vati is steadily and quickly becoming a formidable DJ and producer in the Aotearoa garage and dub scene. He has been producing since 2018 and has been mixing since 2021, Debuting to the public in 2022 opening for UK artist SL. His performance at this year's CubaDupa was a Stompa of a set, with his dubs known to vaporise listeners. A master of the forbidden jutsu, capable of casting catatonic spells through the use of hard-hitting womps, and intricate blends. When Vati hops on the decks, you will undoubtedly find yourself grooving or staring in disbelief as your mind melts. His love for the culture is deep and pure, as shown in every performance!

Being heavily influenced by his family as a child, his mum could sing and play piano and guitar, with his uncle being able to play drums influenced Vati to play the drums at seven years old. Since then, music has been an integral part of his life. Growing up playing drums in bands and listening to Jazz, RnB and Hip-Hop then gravitating to Jungle, Grime, UKG and Dubstep he has evolved his musical journey into the night steppa and badman he is today.

SLAPS has been making waves since entering the scene in January 2022. From opening for multiple heavy hitters in the game such as Document One,  Pola & Bryson, Turno, Gray, K Motionz which has her to play notable events such as Cinema One, Famous Words, & Bay Dreams to performing trippy bass sets deep in the forest, performing at the likes of Bassment & Dimension festival.

Kees has been an avid musician since picking up the guitar as a kid and has taken up DJing and producing in the last 4 years. He loves anything with a breakbeat, and this year he’s released his debut EP on Intaception. Watch out for more releases in the coming months!

This mix encompasses everything I love about Jungle; the crazy breaks, big bass, and ruff vocals. It features tracks from my favourite producers such as Fez Tha Kid, Bruk, Tim Reaper, Azifm and Sully.

Inspired by artists such T>I, Azifm, Klinical and Harley D, Limbo is guaranteed to rattle your interiors! Rico, a pure selector, covers a wide variety of drum and bass, with a love for big bass, techy rollers, groovy jump up, and everything in between. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Amplify, Crossy, Break, Pola & Bryson, and Enei. Rico will undoubtedly induce a skank!

Together, Limbo & Rico have been making waves on dance floors across Aotearoa with their unique and versatile blends, a fusion of their individual styles and influences. Their rising status as innovative artists is a testament to their talent. TANA has been playing in clubs and festivals around Wellington for the past couple of years including a feature in last year's 2nd High Tide Festival.  In the past two years he has also worked to promote other local talent around the city highlighting artists through his label @Supercutsnz.  TANA emerged as a Drum and Bass selector supporting artists such as Subsonic, Delta Heavy, Sota and Amplify.  In this mix however, TANA showcases his love for deep house. 

"I've loved deep house since I was a teenager, listening to artists such as St Germain, Ian Pooley, Chris Stussy or even artists closer to home such as DJ MU or DJ Soane really captivated me.

This was actually a set I recorded earlier in the year at Cuba Dupa alongside @havanabarwellington, it’s my most favourite time of the year in this city so it was a lot of fun playing it out. 

I’m a big believer in tune selection above all else, most of my DJing is done solely by selecting music from my phone, laptop or CD collection whether it’s in the car, lounge or at the pre's.  Selection is everything so I think this is what’s reflected in the mix.  Big mihi to all of you for turning in."

Kia Ora everyone, I’m Antee from France. It’s in my city, Lyon, where I grew up, that I draw my inspiration from—a city of lights for the French nightlife. My mantra is house music: making people groove and adding a little bit of French touch with « le kiff », which means enjoying every moment and turning them into something special. Kerri Chandler, Folamour, Kolter, and the crew of Happinest Therapy (a label based in Lyon) are among those who inspire my music. If you want to discover more about what I do, I released my first self-produced tracks in 2021, and I started DJing in 2023. Check out my latest project launched in 2024 called ‘26,’ available on all platforms.

This mix is my first one in New Zealand (and my first label release worldwide). Since I arrived in January, I’ve been gathering all the music I discovered during my journey here. A twist of groovy bass, with a blend of house music, a pinch of funk, and some vocals—mix it all together, and that’s the recipe!

Danny Diggler. The name oozes charm, intelligence, personality, amazing Fortnite abilities and above all else, a great DJ.  Danny began his Producing/DJ journey in the small town of Wanaka, New Zealand all the way back in 2019, and wow what a journey it’s been. Starting off at house parties, and then winning the 2022 Rhythm and Vines Wildcard competition which gave him the opportunity to play at one of NZ’s biggest festivals, Danny has been playing at clubs around Aotearoa, bringing his unique, high-energy mixing style that will flip between genre depending on what the crowd is feeling.   The mix that Danny has whipped up for Fruit Blender is a range of fast-paced tech house, inspired by the likes of Michael Bibi, Patrick Topping, Ewan McVicar & Sam Alfred.
