The Roots Architects is a very special project produced by Fruits Records founding member Mathias Liengme. This is a tribute to the men in the shadow who built Jamaican reggae in studios. It gathers 50 of the greatest Jamaican session musicians from the 60’s to the early 80’s still playing today. Fruits Records brought them together in studio to create an original album of instrumental songs. “1000 Light Years” is the first single taken from the album "From Then Till Now" to be released later this year. This dark heavy roots song is played by what used to be The High Times Players nucleus in the early 80’s: Barnabas on drums, Chris Meredith on bass, Gibby Morrisson on rhythm guitar and Tony Asher on piano. Then we have Robbie Lyn, Dwight Pinkney, Jah D Fearon, Obeah Denton, Calvin Cameron and Dean Fraser’s horns section who embellish the riddim with beautiful themes and solos.

We always try to bring something special when it comes to release a single on vinyl. This time, we are pleased to announce the return of one of the most obscure and talented vocal group from the early 80's: Time Unlimited. It's been more than twenty years that Donovan Joseph, Hugo Blackwood and Orville Smith, have been off the musical scene as Time Unlimited. During the recording sessions of the Roots Architects project in 2017, we had the chance to meet Donovan Joseph passing by the studio. Straightaway, we were telling ourselves that we had to see his legendary group name written on black wax again. Here it is, with a deep rub a dub cut backed by the High Times Players remembering the golden years of the group!

Kumar, ex-Raging Fyah lead singer, met Fruits Records crew back in 2016, when he invited them to play with I Kong at his Wickie Wackie festival in Bull Bay, Jamaica. From then, the musical friendship never stopped, doing different types of collaboration over the years. His unique voice tone, breathe-taking vocal abilities and songwriting skills make Kumar one of the greatest singers of his generation, as his nomination at the Grammy awards 2016 with Raging Fyah can testify. "Message In Your Radio” brings a different taste to Fruits Record's catalog, noticeably more modern than the previous releases. Kumar's melancholic melodies enhance this powerful riddim played by The 18th Parallel with conscious lyrics: Message in the music is a must, today more than ever. Anthem for radio stations!
