New Tracks for Me!

Fela Kuti is one of my all-time favorite artist, both for his immense musical legacy, but also for his humanist political message. 

Here is a rework I dared to make of one of his last song, O.D.O.O. (overtake don't overtake overtake), released in 1989.

As much as I love the intense groove emanating from this almost 32mn-long track, I also find it particularly interesting as it's a kind of condensed summary of Fela's decades-long political fight. 

In this song he references in a kind of endless mashup some of his most famous tracks like "Zombie", "Shuffering and Shmiling", "Kalakuta Show" or "Unknown Soldier", to once again denounce the fake post-war emancipations of many African countries from colonies to military-led regimes pretending to be democracies.  

Hope you'll enjoy this condensed housy take, but whether you do or not, I guarantee you should take 32 minutes of your time to dig into the timeless original if you're not familiar with It already.

MOTHER RECORDINGS is back with more contemporary House heat, this time from the ever reliable NHAN SOLO. He is a hugely prolific producer who covers all aspects of House and Tech and has released on labels like OFF, 2DIY4, NERVOUS but most of all his own fast-rising imprint, MOTHER RECORDINGS

KEEP IT MOVIN is up first and is six minutes of floor rocking, booty shaking House with rapped and clipped vocals cutting up the percussion lead groove. It is tense and builds to a big peak, with a fantastic bassline carrying the whole thing along.

JACK IS BACK then pairs things back to a more subdued house beat with writhing synths bringing the energy. It is heavy, groovy and deep but also has a big physical impact.
