In the interest of learning new techniques, I often sit down with an existing popular track and try to replicate some of the production tricks and sounds... 

Think of it as an exercise in emulation.  

This is an attempt to re-create a bunch of the sounds (and some of the arrangement) of "Ghosts 'n Stuff" from Deadmau5.

Another pretty lame recreation... this time, of Massive Attack's "Teardrop".

No vocal on this, which makes it sound a lot like the instrumental version of the track that's used as the theme song to "House, MD" on TV.

A simple, repetitive groove starring the Korg ER-1 mkI and Reason's ReDrum, and a bit of effects.  Standard part-by-part intro, then it devolves into a bunch of ridiculous and random (and painful) knob twiddling.
